Yeah, the idea of “nerdy” spaces being made for a particular type of white guy is due to constant and vigorous policing of who gets to belong. It’s why outrage at seeing Black women in particular, but marginalized people in general, in Marvel movies & games is such an effective vector for the right.

One thing I learned by working in NC’s legislature that absolutely no classroom instruction prepared me for is how astonishing it is what Republicans will say on camera. They know session is streamed but so few people watch it may as well not be. So they’ll just say the most unhinged, awful stuff.
