YO COMICS, MY JOB IS DONE We made two stories. Story one: a piece of cheese called Frederick and a carrot called Jimmy. Frederick hates his dad, a piece of Brie. This side detail plot pretty much hijacked the whole strip. But nobody died, so that’s a refreshing change. @yocomicsfair.bsky.social

Six panel comic strip.

Panel one.
Frederick sits on a shelf in the fridge. Frederick: how am I going to invade other planets from here?
His dad leans into the frame.
Dad: hello son.

Panel two. Frederick: I hate you.
Dad: why? Why? Why?
Frederick: because you smell.
Dad: my own son.

Panel three.
Dad, distraught, exits.
Dad: goodbye forever
Frederick: good.

Panel four.
Dad stands/sits on a saucer.
Dad: I am going to get into my flying saucer and go and invade other planets.
Frederick: wait! I want to do that too!

Panel five.
“Meanwhile, outside the fridge…”
Jimmy the carrot lifts a grand piano over his head.
Jimmy: I am so strong.

Panel six.
Fred‘s dad zips past on his flying saucer, knocking Jimmy off his feet. The Piano is going to fall down and crush Jimmy, but we don’t get to see that.
Dad: whooops
Jimmy: aghh
Frederick is just visible at the side of the panel, wishing that was him causing the mayhem

Little girl looks down on a sheet of paper on the tiled floor at her feet. There is a six panel comic strip drawn on it.

Sheet of paper with scrawled words on it.

I asked the kids to create a list of places where a story could happen. The list:
1.Moon.
2.Birmingham.
3.Arsenal Stadium.
4.On the back of a Bee.
5.My house
6.Bromley Glades
7. A fridge.
8.In your mouth.
9.[I can’t read my own writing there, oh dear]
10.Greenwich.
11.School.

Showing the kids how placing a character’s eyes in different places on their heads completely changes their personality.

In the good news column, I was at a launch last night at gosh and everyone was BUZZING about the kids comic fest, @yocomicsfair.bsky.social. Apparently kids were losing their minds with excitement about meeting comics creators. Kids still value the real thing!

So lovely to see people’s reactions to MEGA ROBO VILLINOOS at @yocomicsfair.bsky.social and on here! My co-creator is not one to visibly show emotion unduly / at all if he can help it, but I can tell he is secretly very pleased.

Had a fantastic time at @yocomicsfair.bsky.social in London yesterday! Failed to take any photos (of course), and am now too exhausted to tell you all about it (of course), but it really was an amazing day and I just want to say a huge thank you to the organizers and to all who came along!

Close-up of an amazing and super colourful drawing of Donut Sauad, which was given to me by one of the young attendees to Yo Comics Fair, whose name I am afraid I forgot to make a note of.
