(Zareen, they/she, 30s) Whatever you think this is, it's not. Communist. Sound-maker, poem-writer, nonsense-poster. Programmer and very sorry about it. Mostly benign. Trust me, I'm a doctor.

A great thing about being single is that nobody can stop you rewatching the same movie ten billion times, or binging John Carpenter movies any time of day or night

LRT reminds me of a story from a couple years ago about contractors doing content labeling for LLM training and getting exposed to horrific stuff. Let me see if I can dig it up, because this seems like the flip side of that coin.

A wild thing is having a memory *that* something happened but no memory *of* the happening itself. I can remember describing it shortly after, some of the details I mentioned, metaphors I employed. I can remember remembering, but it's been gone ever since. Like a hole in the brain.

All of this. I also want to add that, in my research, I found that a lot of “inconsistencies” in a victim’s story actually came from gender bias affecting investigators’ record keeping and interview methods.

You cannot read this post in a courtroom. You can read it aloud to your family and friends. You can print it out on leaflets and pass out the leaflets on the steps of the courthouse.

It is not permitted to request jury nullification during a trial but it is permissible to discuss it abstractly. Jury nullification is the synthesis of two rules. First, the prosecution cannot appeal a jury verdict of not guilty. Second, a jury issuing a verdict of not guilty need not explain itself

Where does this leave us? Probably at the beginning of another lengthy string of posts. I think the short version is what I'm literally always saying: Treat your desires with healthy suspicion. They're often not only yours.

But do not mistake: (this) technology has only accelerated (the already and continuing occurrence of, by this and other technologies) eclipsing art with spectacle, and spectacle serves capitalism.

Super Duper Intelligence that purports to provide "infinite personalized music" does so through the same basic cycle of decontextualization and recomposition, only "at scale" via mathematics and environmental destruction.

Doctor Ludd, ThD (scary) @yazatamorph.com · 30/09/2026
The predominant influence in the US (and likely many [most?] other places) is mass culture, which represents existing materials to us in mediated forms. It is cyclical, both temporally in how a past "fad" or "style" returns and in how disparate sources are recomposed.
100
Doctor Ludd, ThD (scary) @yazatamorph.com · 30/09/2026
Furthermore, "personalization" is both a myth and already forced upon us. Your tastes did not spring from the void fully-formed with no outside influence. Changing them intentionally is possible, in my opinion, but even then, you remain influenced.

The opportunity for reflection upon and analysis of music, its makers, yourself is part of the beauty of experience, and doing this well requires repetition.
100
Doctor Ludd, ThD (scary) @yazatamorph.com · 30/09/2026
Maybe we also pretend this doesn't happen. Okay. How can you meaningfully engage with it all? How can you remember a piece? Discover subtleties? Draw connections? Perhaps there's something to be said for hearing less music more recurrently.

Doctor Ludd, ThD (scary) @yazatamorph.com · 30/09/2026
You know the kind of thing: an ever-present sound you've learned to tune out; the feeling of air that you've learned not to perceive as gases and particles constantly bombarding you; etc. It's maybe hard to recognize the line, but at some point you've crossed from aesthesis into anaesthesis.

Doctor Ludd, ThD (scary) @yazatamorph.com · 30/09/2026
Even if you were capable of imbibing "infinite" (a portion of infinity is infinity; we all know OP just meant "a lot") stimuli, what value (axios, not dollars) could it possibly have for you? At best, it's a steady drip of entertainment or pleasant distraction. Mollifying. Numbing.
100
Doctor Ludd, ThD (scary) @yazatamorph.com · 30/09/2026
Let's grant for shits and giggles that Super Duper Intelligence can, in fact, produce "infinite personalized music." Let's even grant that a portion is worth hearing according to your preferred metric, and you only ever have to hear that portion. Why is this even desirable?

A post from X (formerly Twitter) verified user @nicksaraev on 28 September 2026 at 12:41 PM. which reads:

"I am not joking when I say this.

Spotify, Apple Music, and streaming in general is over.

AI music is now very, very good. You just don't know yet because all AI music circulating today is from ~2-3 generations ago.

Suno v6 pro et al has solved infinite personalized music."

Interrogate your desires, the things you like, what resonates with you. Ask why.

LRT worth reading if for no other reason than becoming more aware/renewing awareness of reaction - yes, in daily life, but also in particular strands of art, music, aesthetics generally. More music focused, but also recommend Shekhovstov's "Apoliteic music" article in this vein

By the authority vested in me as Some Dipshit by Myself and the laws of Nature I pulled out of My Butt, it is hereby ordered that both artificial and super intelligences are supplanted by Super Duper Intelligence, which I just invented, and also beans ensoul the rational principle in vegetable life.

Might be a bug or limitation of the AT protocol? Haven't looked into code, but I've noticed a number of the settings have caveats to the effect that not all providers respect the setting. :/
