She didn’t look at all like she was even thinking about food, so engrossed was she with whatever she was mapping out. The way her fingers traced the lines on the parchment took Geni back to the other night. She shuddered with the pleasant memory of Kallista’s fingers running across her skin.
A moment passed. Geni had been staring for too long at Kallista, saying nothing. Kallista’s wanted poster. Sure, it was when she had longer hair, and the artist had rendered her with an intimidating scowl, but the likeness was not too far off the mark.
Geni slipped one poster out of the stack and clutched it to her chest. Her memory might have failed her by struggling to hold Kallista’s face frozen in her mind’s eye, but at least she had this.
She looked again, tracing the line of her jaw, brushing her lips.
‘Wanted’, the poster said up the top.
“Yes. You are wanted. More than you can ever know.” Geni folded the poster and slipped it into her bodice, then curled up on her makeshift bed, holding the image close to her heart.
