It's October finally and this year @djigr.bsky.social is defending her PhD (send her strength!) There won't be #paleoctober this year so I made #prehistoctober! The rule is pretty simple, each day a new prehistoric specie to draw! Use the hashtag #prehistoctober2026 Good luck! #paleoart #Sciart

What time is it? It’s #Cheliceratime ! Today's entry is one of the most famous eurypterid, Megalograptus ohioensis! All the basic infos are here but if you want to learn more, there’s more in the thread below!⬇️🧵 #arthropod #ordovician #paleoart #eurypterid #sciart #bugsky 1/4
This famous arthropod was one of the biggest eurypterids during the Ordovician period, and its genus was first identified as a graptolite. It’s well-known for the long spines on its second pair of legs and for the semi-lunar shape of its telson.

Size : a bit more than 50cm of body length
Time period : Late Ordovician
Paleoart speculativometer : Almost a carbon copy

The animal drawn looks a bit like a scorpion but without pincers, with instead large spiny arms

I need to atone for my sins (taking too many vertebrate projects this year) so I'm doing an #InverteFest special - Crabmons give me a word/archetype/whatever and I'll do a crab when I can crabapple & skeleton, prompts by @petrathepostdoc.bsky.social in the middle of a Slay The Spire 2 run
two crab doodles. on the left is crabapple, a red apple sliced in half facing the front as a face, two leaves on top as eyes, two smaller partially eaten apples as claws, apple slices as legs. on the right is skeleton, a crab whose face is made out of a single vertebra with its gaping hole acting as a mouth. on the sides are rib bones as legs, on the front are shoulder blades as claws

I don't recall if I ever posted these on Bluesky, but here's a set of illustrations I made for the Meiolaniidae wikipedia page back when I expanded the information for those animals The goal was to showcase the overall diversity in cranial ornamentation #sciart
An illustration featuring four species of meiolaniid turtles. Niolamia has large, frill-like horns, Ninjemys smaller horns with a very pointed nose. Warkalania is shown with a knobby but ultimately much more reduced cranial ornamentation while Meiolania has short, recurved horns resembling a cow

A massive Delapparentia is left behind after getting stuck in the mud. It’s not a natural trap; he’s simply very old, and his weakness and difficulty moving do the rest on a surface that the herd has crossed without any trouble—a herd that will leave him behind without a moment’s hesitation

little one i haven't seen a lot of art with pterosaur embryos, so i tried to give it a try. and damn, was it hard without good references. random species since i was trying to figure out things in general. might get back to it later and draw another if i learn more about it! #paleoart #sciart
A realistic digital drawing with pterosaur embryo, 3 stages of development are shown. The left one is still tiny and barely resembles a pterosaur. It has a big and not fully developed yet eye, a thin neck and a tiny body. The second one, in the middle, starts looking like a pterosaur already. It's a little more developed, has a beak, and already has a thin membrane between the wings and legs. The yolk with blood vessels is also shown there. The last drawing on the right shows the late stage of development, it's already fuzzy, curled up with it's head between folded wings. The exact species is unknown.

(2025) Seadusa, the Fatal Pokemon Fakemon design inspired by the Portuguese man o' war (Physalia physalis) and Femme Fatales. Meant to fit Generation 7's dex.
Seadusa
The Fatal Pokemon

Ability: Stinging Touch

Egg Group: Amorphous
Gender: Unknown

Height: 6'04'' / 1.9 m

Seadusa earily float at the water's surface. Any creature unlucky to get tangled in its tendrils is stung repeatedly until they are fully paralyzed.
Its body is made up of multiple organisms: several make up the tendrils, another makes up the bulbous electrical sack, but the central figure controls them all.

It is a feminine appearing pokemon, much like a jellyfish, that looks like its wearing a cocktail dress with gloves and a choker. It has long eyelashes, a stoic gaze, a large hat-like sail, and several stinging tentacles that look like snakes: they even have eyes.

My Kalosian Druddigon concept before we realized PLZA wouldn't be creating Kalosian regional forms. Disney's Gargoyles was an inspiration of course.
This energetic Pokémon bursts out from its statue form when the sun sets, ready to take on any foe. Gangs of Druddigon prowl around at night, scavenging in ancient castles, caverns, and unfortunately, trash cans.Though it lies perfectly still, its eyes and nostrils pulse with an ever increasing draconic aura. It does not particularly like the coldest winder months. Even in this petrified form, it appears to shiver.

What time is it? It’s #Cheliceratime & #Fossilfriday! Today a special thematic post about eurypterids' fossilization! We know a lot of these guys but they aren't that much of fossil material at first, so let's talk about that below!⬇️🧵 #eurypterid #arthropod #fossilization #invert #bugsky 1/5
Eurypterids are fossilization cheaters

Eurypterids are the most abundant extinct chelicerates outside of amber conservation cases, but this relatively high representation in bare rocks is kinda intriguing on several points. Mainly 3 factors can explain such abundance in the fossil record:

TAPHONOMIC
The mass moult hypothesis: highest available material to be fossilized in singular localities.

ECOLOGICAL
Maybe the most diverse aquatic chelicerate order regarding of occupied ecological niches.

CHEMICAL
One of the highest fat concentrations in exoskeleton among chelicerates, slowing down decomposition.
