just thinking of that title and you think of all the different factions who would be hunting him and for different reasons trying to be the first to find him and that's a great story. Esp. in the hands of a capable director not that Iger would know one (lol to JJ getting 2 SW films and Soderbergh 0)

the assumption was always that he’d be the most difficult to lure back, so to know they had him locked the fuck in and hype is so baffling it can only be explained by Iger having reddit chud opinions

I'm genuinely hyperventilating over this. Never in my wildest dreams would I have imagined these conversations to have happened and (most importantly) Adam Driver to actually be on board and even enthusiastic. Fuck Disney for nixing this.

Adam Driver on Jarmusch, 'Star Wars' and putting filmmakers first

In an interview with The Associated Press, Adam Driver says he developed a Kylo Ren “Star Wars” movie that would have been directed by Steven Soderbergh.

“It was called ‘The Hunt for Ben Solo’ and it was really cool,” adds Driver. “But it is no more, so I can finally talk about it.” ‼️‼️‼️

Driver says he took a concept to Soderbergh for a film that would take place after 2019's "The Rise of Skywalker." That movie culminated in Ren's redemption and apparent death. Driver had undertaken the trilogy with an arc in mind for Ren that inverted the journey of Darth Vader. As the trilogy evolved, it didn't play out that way. Driver felt there was unfinished business for Kylo Ren, or as he was known before turning to the Dark Side, Ben Solo.

Soderbergh and Rebecca Blunt outlined a story that the group then pitched to Kennedy, Lucasfilm vice president Cary Beck and Lucasfilm chief creative officer Dave Filoni. They were interested, so the filmmakers then pulled in Scott
Z. Burns to write a script. Driver calls the result "one of the coolest (expletive) scripts I had ever been a part of."

"We presented the script to Lucasfilm. They loved the idea.
They totally understood our angle and why we were doing it," Driver says. "We took it to Bob Iger and Alan Bergman and they said no. They didn't see how Ben Solo was alive. And that was that."

"It was called "The Hunt for Ben Solo' and it was really cool," adds Driver. "But it is no more, so I can finally talk about it."

friend who works in film had this to say and i want to hold on to his words. being delulu is in my blood

Honestly I think he's talking about this to get people buzzing and turn up the pressure on Disney to bring him back. I spend too much time with actors, I know the trick lol

They nixed it because "They didn't see how Ben Solo was alive?" In the franchise that bisected Darth Maul and dropped him down a shaft, but somehow Maul returned? That Boba Fett was eaten by the inescapable Sarlacc, but somehow Fett returned? And then gets fucking Palpatine (character limit reached)

During the TFA and TLJ eras, I made more #fanart that focused on Rey. I feel like all the Rey Palpatine-Skywalker garbage in TROS totally dampened my enthusiasm for her character, but she was so inspiring to me in the beginning
