I think this will be one of the defining images of the Premier League's void years: a proudly working class fanbase celebrating that the ruling family of an oppressive regime had hired a barrister on £10,000-an-hour to try and prevent them suffering consequences for their cheating. Embarrassing.

reading the whole decision, it's kind of incredible how it states that they were doing exactly, to the letter, what everyone said they were doing for years, with basically no nuance to it.

So we learn this morning that Khaldoon has diplomatic immunity, therefore makes legal action complicated. Etihad is linked with the UK government and puts immense pressure diplomatically (or are they ? Burnham may have common interests with them). That's horrifying.

Watch this in its entirety. A team went through their final 18 games winning 16, scoring 54, conceding 9. And it wasn't enough to win the league ahead of the biggest cheats in the history of world football. The following season, the squad was ridden with injuries due to this exertion. Farce. Get rid

I've been experimenting with one-pagers to condense my longer scouting reports into key insights for coaches. Basically: how to set a player up for success. Here’s a draft for Piero Hincapié, whose time is near.
All-out, repeat intensity: Sustains high-intensity work through 90+ (recovery runs, counter-press jumps, potential for overlaps).
Frame + movement: 6'0–6'1, plays “tall” vs wingers; long, dextrous legs; side-on, knees bent, short active steps. Leap lets him contest up a level; pre-aerial duel muscling improving. More feisty than domineering.
Pace: Wide speed (CL top-end 34.8 km/h). Fastest when carrying up the left touchline; short recoveries solid, medium-or-longer excellent.
Technique: Clean first touch, economical actions, but not a hips-loose winger-quality dribbler. Right foot functional but not overly interesting.
Temperament: Formerly way over-amped (13Y/3R in 22/23); calibrating more: yellows/90 dropped (0.48→0.12), reds mostly gone last two seasons, still hints of over-aggression. Smart, tactically aware, adjusted to Alonso quickly. Ferocious in duels, composed in possession.

C'est l'une des meilleures nouvelles du mercato je pense. L'idée de voir un top DC de PL rester à Everton, ça montre les ambitions du nouveau board et d'un travail d'économies et de reconstruction économique bien réalisé en amont. Bref, c'est super.

Rafraichissant Nuno Espirito Santo.

Arsenal’s forward presence is often set by the freedom and energy of our fullbacks. Jurrien Timber has looked recharged in recent games, and had his burst back on the dribble, and his leap for the goal showed his hunger to score. The level he has hit post ACL isn’t normal. #AFC

Expanding upon this with some other phases. Essentially a four-box-two. It's less of "Merino as a striker" than "Merino and Ø as floating 10s," with Trossard and Nwaneri pinching in centrally during advanced phases to get them max shooting opportunities. I think FBs should mostly stay wide.

He tried to pull all those levers this year, probably even harder than before. This year: post-Euros vibes, worse luck, shorter squad, no longer break, compounding fatigue and injuries, I don't think reds help (more defending = more moving), and (in my opinion) a fumbled January.

There is an accumulation. Particularly in this league.

The schedule gets more packed, the game gets longer, the physical demands rise. The best players bounce between club duty and international duty with nary a break in between.

The concentration of spending has a hand in this, too. You play 70 hard minutes against a team in the middle of the table, and you look over to see your prize. Congrats, Jhon Durán is warming up. Hope you like to run.

“90% of the subs that I make are related to saving minutes or because of injuries or avoiding injuries,” said Arteta. “It’s not tactical reasons.”

A previous Frenkie de Jong quote I shared:

“I think it is better if we play less football. Not only because of the physical strain, but also because it reduces the quality of the game. The big problem is that you never have time to train during a season. You are only recovering."

Put another way, if you're wondering why some seemingly obvious tactical thing isn't getting done, it's often because the players are wiped, and they play again in three days.

We only have a limited view of the real impacts of it all. This makes analysis hard. All we can do is acknowledge it.The point? The season is not going to plan for Arsenal, but it will have some more twists and turns. We have our tactical thoughts, we have data on their production, we have (incomplete) injury lists and explanations. But we have very little view into how a player is actually feeling when they play, outside of inferences and conjecture. And that's about as important as anything.

The reality, though, is that we don’t currently have a clearly identifiable reason why things should magically improve more than our rivals. While I anxiously await the return of Ben White and perhaps a mini-Dubai type trip in a couple of weeks, there are now more single points of failure, not less. Injuries beget injuries, fatigue begets fatigue, Saka isn’t coming back any time soon, and there hasn’t been some dastardly, secret plan to explode in the final months. We’ve just been getting through.

Issues with form and fortune, after all, don’t even out as a matter of course, especially over a short time horizon. Sometimes it can compound, put pressure on other stuff, and worsen.

If you continue to feel perfectly bullish on the project in the long-term, gloomy about what’s transpired, and realistic (but nonetheless foolishly, defiantly hopeful) about what lies in the immediate future, you have company. Me.

A new signing can’t be counted on to solve everything. But it would fucking help.

L'implication de Mbappé et sa sécurité technique sont vraiment encourageantes en vrai. ça travaille un peu défensivement aussi. C'est vraiment intéressant. Le Real a largement les moyens de passer les barrages (et en vrai, le fera sans doute).

Last we saw Kai, he was playing every last minute of an energy drink tie that was 0-4 on aggregate. Before that, he collapsed at the end of Wolves and was subbed at 90' against City after a goal and assist. Injury lists don't magically improve when they push every remaining player to the brink.
