Portland City Council candidate Kellie Torres gave two notably different answers about PCEF funding on October 7 and 8. Here are both exchanges:

Went to a Sen.Pham party last night and was awed by a room filled with environmental, housing, and labor advocates who were there to celebrate a fierce and effective fighter for working class families. Thank you, @khanhphamfororegon.com your support and for all you do for Oregon families like mine!

Is the idea of Ballard/West Seattle being automated light metro completely and truly dead? Or is there still a chance there?

Because by Q2 2027, we need to start mobilizing at the scale @koriander.bsky.social is talking about. We have a narrow timeframe to find a candidate, and then a long road of introducing them to Portlanders.

This is a great plan, but I fear it is greatly imperiled by the eventual discontinuation of N-Line Sounder service. It’s gonna suck having a mixed use community that’s not a convenient one-seat rail ride away from downtown.

I’m aware of the daunting task that lies ahead. Equally as crucial as mobilizing this movement is picking the right candidate to take on Wilson and the establishment. By my estimation, we have 6 months to accomplish that portion of the process. And I’m at a loss.

I think we need to this, AND we also need to find Portland a better mayor. That’s likely a much more urgent task.

After being revealed to be a bigot and just generally bitchmade, Brian Owendoff is now saying that *allowing the free market the choice to build multifamily housing in one of the most walkable, transit-oriented areas of the metro* is... (checks notes)... a radical socialist plot? Genius. No notes!

JVP is a heat-seeking missile for the wrong choice/decision. A magic 8 ball would be a better office holder than her, because at least it would get it right *some* of the time.

In my mind, a return to work for MultCo workers doesn't make much sense. Most of them aren't downtown, so there isn't a 'central city revitalization' angle here. JVP is basically just mandating a bunch of civil servants consume gas during a combination energy/climate crisis.

If you weren't motivated before, this is a good reason to support a Senate takeover (especially in Maine). Going from 6-3 to 5-3 for 2 years may not seem like much, but every step counts.

Sort of insane fact about how broken US urban planning is—America now spends more building *just the lights for roads and highways* than on all subways & ground mass transit combined Spending on roadway *pavement* is 18x transit spending

She’s literally refusing to debate Drazan. She’s going out of her way to convince democrats not to show up. A cardboard cut-out of her would be a better candidate at this point.

This measure should demonstrate (to all sides) that there are hard limits to allyship as the only organizing principle. This is a bad idea, badly conceived, and very badly drafted - and some prominent allies (who I will continue to support) should have said so, like a year ago.

Exactly. Now is the time to hammer hard against data centers, admit some mistakes in permitting so many, lean in hard on fostering business by bolstering work/middle class families, and maybe even do some GND stuff. Dems love the specter of returns on progressive infrastructure investments.

It varied, but basically all some permutation of “high taxes/low services (or at least low-impact, low visibility service). Add in a reputation for being bad for business, a stooge to public sector unions, and personally corrupt (ie the wife scandal) and you’ve got an unhappy dem electorate.

I think it’s officially time to freak the fuck about the governor’s race. In the last 3 days, I have spoken with at least half a dozen lifelong urban democrats who say they’re planning on voting for Christine Drazan just to wake the Democratic Party of Oregon up to their discontent.

I despise that it is the left who is constantly seen as being uncompromising and self-righteous when, in my experience, I have never met someone who is more certain of their own moral and intellectual superiority than a centrist arguing for the status quo, and doing so as if that’s being “neutral.”

This is just such an incredibly bad faith take. Equating some of the people who are fighting the hardest for immigrant communities, against climate change, and against oligarchs with those who are perpetrating that violence isn’t just unproductive, it’s dangerous.

I want to understand your concerns and perspective, Emma. But I also want you to understand mine. I may disagree with mods on council less than I do Trump, but when we disagree, I want someone who will be a strong voice for my values whether it’s a bike lane or a federal omnibus bill.
