La Calice Cup 12 ended last weekend. I managed to get 3rd place & got into many great games I hadn't given a proper try before. Some really impressive scores by players and it was fun to discuss new strategies. I hadn't put much time into this type of event before, was def worth the while.

More damage was done than can be recovered when the modes were created, like DFK 1.0&1.51 should prob not exist. I remember seeing an interview where ikd? felt bad about needing to update Futari (&DFK). If DFKBL (not an arrange mode) is omitted then 1.5 better be considered significantly superior.

iirc there was some mix of in-arcade leaderboards and online ones (along with resulting competition & chronicle progress). Vritra Hexa does this a little with the arcade being tagged for each online score. Repping your local arcade seems like a fun way to prop up competition

Being one of the better coop shmups to begin with probably helped to draw people in. Seemed like an attempted revitalization & activity peak of modern arcade shmups that wasn't really continued upon (also clearly designed for short 1cc duration but score attack / leaderboard focus)

This makes me think of Dariusburst AC, with Chronicle Mode having 1000s of stage routes with interconnected cabinets making progress, event modes & certain chronicle stages having new bosses etc. Online leaderboards seemed heavily competitive for every route & ship type so seemed like a good time.
