Savaged Regime @lazygecko.bsky.social · 27/09/2026Just noticed how superb the craftsmanship is for the CG FMV in Ecco Tides of Time SCD by the standards of 1994. Leagues ahead of basically any in-house 3D cutscenes at the time. Looks like this was contracted to Angel Studios who already had quite a pedigree by then www.youtube.com/watch?v=-YmF...youtube.comEcco: The Tides of Time - FMV CutscenesYouTube video by silenig 1111

Savaged Regime @lazygecko.bsky.social · 09/09/2026Going back to Civ 5 and it's striking how much better the game looks than its sequels. They hit just the right tone for the visuals, and even something as simple as making the fog of war clouds is vastly preferable to how they present it in 6 and 7. Got a soft spot for the leader models in 6 though 031

Savaged Regime @lazygecko.bsky.social · 17/08/2026A problem with doing a Quake E1M2 pastiche is that it uses the same 64px brick pattern everywhere, and using a different wall texture for variety ruins the feel too much. It’s a whole new full length campaign for Quake with 32 maps and a completely new soundtrack, aimed at being compatible with winquake. I made a few maps for it. youtu.be/ViJMgLNLW08youtu.beTremor - Release TrailerYouTube video by Tremor 28939
Savaged Regime @lazygecko.bsky.social · 18/07/2026Still working on a texture tileset fusing Doom and Quake textures together into a single cohesive theme. Settled on a primarily gray color scheme to set it apart from Quake's brown with chartreuse accents coming from the tech elements. Ironically it's starting to look more like Quake 2. 060

Savaged Regime @lazygecko.bsky.social · 01/07/2026I've always wondered how much bandwidth moddb.com wastes on people manually clicking the download link to skip the auto-download timer, but then the timer launches a second duplicate download anyways. 070
Savaged Regime @lazygecko.bsky.social · 30/06/2026Was curious how those asynchronously looping lifts were done in Doom's E2M2 so I looked at the map file and found it rather amusing. Since they didn't have any scripting, the "RNG" effect was achieved by 2 separate repeating move/stop triggers when you move in and out of the lines for a light beam 152

Savaged Regime @lazygecko.bsky.social · 25/06/2026Progress. Implementing custom textures via SLADE was trickier than I thought even with simple truecolor pngs for modern sourceports.
