I grew up 20 mins outside of Blacksburg, and it never seemed that far away from the rest of the world until I got older. VA is both deceptively large and disconnected west of the Blue Ridge. It's getting better - Roanoke has Amtrak service now, and it is expanding into the NRV early next year.

Hear me out: the How I Met Your Mother finale was a superb piece of TV. Even a decade later, I don't understand how people can be mad at the writing. Maybe knowing what's coming is the key? The buildup over the final season hits even harder when you know how fleeting his time with Traci becomes.

This is nothing new, but there's something unsettling about checking my flood risk on the FEMA Flood Insurance maps and being told that I am in an area of reduced risk due to a levee. I understand the benefits, but I also have some knowledge of what happens when levees fail. That's still risky.

My name is Lucian Read. I am a documentary filmmaker working on a film
about NCAR, Walter Orr Roberts and its founding, the scientists and
breakthroughs that followed, and the institution's current peril —
made vivid this week by UCAR's lawsuit to halt its dismantlement.

I noted your name on a letter written in support of NCAR that was
shared with me by a former NCAR director.

We launched a crowdfunding effort on Monday as one part of raising the
initial funds and awareness for the film. We are already 40% funded.
We wanted to make sure we let all of NCAR's supporters know about it,
and I'd be glad to connect if you have any interest in the project.

I don't have much to add here. This is ridiculous. In Wichita, our forecast high of 91 for Saturday comes close to the record (92, 1916) and comes two days after the earliest instance of 90F+ temperatures on record (1907-03-19). Not quite the same level of extreme, but extreme nonetheless.
