Can't remember any computer game I've played where I felt I needed to use a potion for anything other than healing. I find it frustrating because I *want* to use potions. I guess one of the issues is that potions in games are all too often tedious probability tweakers and not ability granters.

It's stories like that which make me proud to have worked with people to make up so many bullshit blessings :) The virtues are a great bit of design - the team looked at typical LARPer behaviour and encouraged the stuff that makes LARP fun while calling everyone else heretics.

The weakness is that it's had the knock-on effect of people undervaluing items a little because they aren't permanent. There's an argument we have the costs slightly wrong because they assume people make four events a year wheras the average is probably closer to 3. But! It keeps people in business!

(If you're interested, for Empire the so-clever-it-makes-you-sick Dan Williams just hit on the idea of making it morally wrong in-character to hoard stuff, and the Prosperity assembly did the rest, and it broadly seems to have worked just fine.)

But! It seems to me that the fear-state is having no bennies left to spend when you need them, which leads to hoarding. So I guess the take-away is to give the players more uses of less potent bennies?

more important use that generally would mean they took the power use home with them *but* they'd also used the power. Is any of this backed up with hard science and mathematics? LOL. LMAO. No! Like a lot of live roleplaying theory it exists only as subjective opinion and anecdotal evidence.

used them because they were always saving them for a future event where they might conceivably be more useful. So after a bit I experimented by making the default power twice a day/weekend. And people started using them because they could use one, and still have a use left over for that theoretical

This reminded me of a thing. Back in ancient days I helped run a fest live-roleplaying game called Maelstrom. One of the features were special blessings. They were often daily or event limited powers. When we started the baseline was once a weekend or once a day special calls. It turned out nobody

Massive Arbor Point Update, the pre-game scouting for all four areas of military activity on the planet have just dropped. The problem is that as a GM it is too easy to trick players. You're their interface with the world. So I err always on the side of being up front with them just cause I think everyone will have a better time.
