#Aractober day 5 is E for Ero. Often referred to as pirate spiders due to the habit of invading the webs of other spiders where they prey on the occupant. E furcata/Cambridge I have two abdomen tubercles. E tuberculata/aphana have four. The egg sacks are also quite distinctive.

Thanks to all those who came along to our annual Fungi Foray in Clyne Valley Country Park yesterday. We had a full house of attendees for the event led by Teifion Davies, retired head gardener at Clyne Gardens, who has an immense knowledge of fungi matched only by his passion for fungi!

Did you spot the caterpillar in Sunday's post? Here’s a video of it consuming the willow leaf it was camouflaging with! It’s one of the Hawkmoth Caterpillars (we have an internal debate over whether it’s a Poplar or Eyed Hawkmoth and welcome suggestions!) A great sighting on a warm day.

Seal pupping season is here 🦭 You might spot seal pups alone on Welsh beaches. This isn’t unusual and doesn’t mean the pup has been abandoned. The mothers return to the sea for short foraging trips, but will keep an eye on their pup and return regularly to them. 📸 Thinesh Thirugnanasampanthar

🦈 Our Angelshark sightings in Cardigan Bay have been published in @esr-ir.bsky.social science journal! We had 3 sightings of Angelsharks in 2024 and 2025 on our underwater cameras in Cardigan Bay. These were in the IUCN Cardigan-Caernarfon Bay Important Shark and Ray Area (ISRA).

There have been several reports of rats in Martins Haven over the past month. Rats and other ground predators can and have made their way to seabird islands where they decimate seabird populations. Preventing predators like rats reaching the islands is our top priority. 🐀

Just five places left on our accessible wildlife event on Saturday at the beautiful Crwys Community Woodland, Three Crosses, Gower at 9am. There are lovely flat paths for wheelchairs, buggies and pushchairs with accessible parking, toilets and picnic tables too.

Over the weekend (20/6/26) we were made aware of a warning “Be Careful Snares!” written on the sightings chalk board in the barn at Gelli Hir Woods. This morning staff have checked around the paths and found nothing.
