Our #BostonAndBeyond team joined Boston Woods Trust at Jenny’s Wood to clear encroaching reeds from two restored ponds. Managing excess vegetation in autumn helps keep ponds healthy while minimising disturbance to amphibians and other wildlife. #PondConservation

Our #LondonBlueChain team visited Loughborough Farm in Brixton to build a new wildlife pond. They had a great time working with volunteers to create this new habitat. Thanks to The National Lottery Heritage Fund & National Lottery players for allowing us to run these sessions.

The Elderberries group at Milton Community Garden got pond dipping in urban Glasgow with staff member Chris! No amphibians this time, but they found water shrimp, mayfly larvae, beetles, snails and more. Next up: giving the overgrown pond some TLC this autumn. Watch this space!

Did you spot the caterpillar in Sunday's post? Here’s a video of it consuming the willow leaf it was camouflaging with! It’s one of the Hawkmoth Caterpillars (we have an internal debate over whether it’s a Poplar or Eyed Hawkmoth and welcome suggestions!) A great sighting on a warm day.

Our #GreenTalent team have done their 1st amphibian survey together! At Eye Green NR, Placements spent the evening surveying ponds, which involves being spread around various points of the perimeter & pointing torches at the water's surface, keeping a close eye out for any little movements!

The recent wildfires at Hampton NR have revealed an amazing glimpse into the past! These bullet-shaped fossils are Belemnites, relatives of squid that swam Jurassic seas around 200 million years ago, preserved in the clay that now forms Hampton’s wildlife-rich landscape.

After the recent spells of rain, more amphibians have been seen out & about. This little beauty was under a reptile survey refugia at Hampton NR. After an extremely hot & dry summer, its a relief to see this common toad along with smooth newts & great crested newts above ground again.
