Today marks #WorldCarFreeDay. Walking is one of the best ways to tackle the climate-nature emergency and support Scotland’s journey towards Net Zero. If more of us choose to walk, CO2 emissions, noise and air pollution from traffic would reduce.
We're caring for our environment by choosing to walk or wheel.

#MondayMotivation Tracking our steps can help us stay motivated. Although it’s not about the distance we walk or wheel, a personal challenge to increase your step count can help keep us motivated. What keeps you motivated to walk or wheel?

#WednesdayWalksToWalkMore Revamp your daily work commute. Can you get off the bus a stop early or park a little further away to get some extra steps in? If you work from home, try a false commute. How do you get extra steps into your workday?
“When I’m working from home, I try to get out for a 30 minute walk before I log on in the morning. It makes me feel more focused and ready to work.”

#WednesdayWaysToWalkMore The start of a new school year is the chance to begin building healthy habits. Walking and wheeling to and from school improves young people’s physical, social and mental health. Why not set up a walking bus? Or try a park and stride if you live further away.

#MondayMotivation You don’t need a marathon to kickstart the week. A 15 minute walk or wheel can work wonders. Think of it as a mini mood upgrade to boost your energy, improve focus and help you feel more positive. Short walk and wheels add up, especially when they become part of your daily routine.

Research shows that helping people feel safer on our streets encourages them to walk or wheel more. This includes keeping walkers and wheelers separate from people driving or cycling. What would need to change on the streets near you to encourage you to walk or wheel more? 🤔

Mini challenges. Team talk: gather your team (in-person or virtually) and go for a walk and talk together. It’s a great way to connect!
Stadium loops: turn your local park or streets intoa stadium circuit. Plot a circular route and see how many laps you can complete.
Half-time walk: just like athletes recovering between halves or attempts, use the down-time during sport coverage to keep moving.
