Not pictured: Haruki Murakami’s wife, or indeed whoever is cooking, cleaning, paying bills, running errands, doing the laundry, answering emails, etc like yea his routine is goals, but let’s not lie to ourselves about all the invisible work others are doing to enable him to have that routine
quote from Haruki Murakami: “I keep to this routine every day without variation. The repetition itself becomes the important thing; it’s a form of mesmerism. I mesmerize myself to reach a deeper state of mind.

“But to hold to such repetition for so long—six months to a year—requires a good amount of mental and physical strength. In that sense, writing a long novel is like survival training. Physical strength is as necessary as artistic sensitivity.”

Writers are wizards. We lock ourselves away within our mystic towers (bedrooms, offices, coffee shops) and utter arcane magicks (lots of swear words) over our ancient tomes (long-ass WIPs) while imbibing potions of potency (ungodly amounts of caffeine). #writerslife

Okay, so I guess we’re going to have this convo again… If you write a good story, your age DOES NOT matter. I’m seeing people say they are 35+ and too old to be published. Nope. I had writers from 21-65 in my debut year. Focus on the words & stop worrying about the ageism nonsense. #authors

The very nicest thing about being a writer is that you can afford to indulge yourself endlessly with oddness, and nobody can really do anything about it, as long as you keep writing and kind of using it up, as it were. --Shirley Jackson
