Authors (especially women): Please stop apologizing for promoting your books. You created an incredible piece of art. You SHOULD BE shouting about it from the rooftops as much as you want. It’s a lifetime achievement, and anyone belittling you for doing promo has issues with themselves not you.

It’s NOT COMMON PRACTICE for agents or editors to reach out to writers unsolicited. The scammy emails spoofing addresses for agents & editors look real but they’re not. If you’re concerned, reach out to seasoned professionals & ask for clarity. Protect yourself & approach these emails with caution.

I wrote two books inspired by badass women in history. NBS: Inspired by Lillian Boyer a female wingwalker in the 1920s. AABS: Inspired by Dr. Lucy Wanzer, the first woman to get her medical degree west of the Rockies in 1876. She changed the course of women in medicine in San Francisco.

No matter how hard it can be, you must respectfully & professionally advocate for your work when things go sideways. People will try to take advantage, even gaslight you into thinking this is “just how publishing works.” Don’t accept that. Use your voice when people aren’t coming through for you.
