Perfect is the enemy of the good, but if nobody cares about even meeting the benchmark for "good", is it any wonder why folks opt out of trying? Hope for the best, but cover your ass FIRST. Not everyone has to be your friend, but they're also not automatically your enemy. Be realistic AND hopeful.

Telling folks to get offline & engage w/the public isn't inherently bad advice. The problem comes when said folks show up IRL to spaces that never anticipated that they'd actually show up. So now you got all these online folks meeting the IRLs & finding out that the IRLs didn't really want them.

Before we moved on, I was quick to say that I don't hate everyone that doesn't mask anymore. I'm a firm believer that perfect is the enemy of the good, but I also know that the vast majority of folks don't even bother with trying to be "good" or even "good enough". It suscks to know that.
