Louie @woodhouse3d.com · 23/09/2026This is easily possible for any major game studio to do, it's a conscious choice not to, to go for the subtle delivery of TV/Movies. Someday hopefully more games will tech inspiration from other media instead 010
Louie @woodhouse3d.com · 23/09/2026I've seen a lot of people praising the facial tech of Onimusha as if it's something new but I wanted to say that it's not. What makes it standout is the actors are doing theatre levels of exaggerated expressions. Honestly I really wish more games tried to emulate the stage rather than TV/Movies 140
Louie @woodhouse3d.com · 20/09/2026Onimusha is a really great Action game. The story is good but obviously has Capcom levels of depth to it 011
Reposted by LouieLouie @woodhouse3d.com · 26/05/2026Worked on making a PS2 style apartment recently. God I could work in this style forever, it's just the perfect balance of not too simple, not too complex. Plus it runs at 200+ FPS! UE5 is great when you strip back the expensive rendering features and just do classic models with baked lighting. 6194
Louie @woodhouse3d.com · 11/09/2026The Manchester, Bury, Arcade Club has ruined every other arcade/arcade bar for me now. NQ64 is dogshit 011
Louie @woodhouse3d.com · 08/09/2026Well the fun thing is it doesn't matter what the game is, it's only a fixed max cost of $150,000 per game 020
Louie @woodhouse3d.com · 03/09/2026Not long now until release 😁 Excited for people to play it after our hard work on it 🙌 000
Louie @woodhouse3d.com · 22/08/2026Oh that might be a bit too much as it would really easily lead to piracy, as cool as that would be.The bad copy protection did a number to the Dreamcast. If they just let some of the big publishers front the bill for their own factories that could work 101
Louie @woodhouse3d.com · 22/08/2026Though I also think part of it is trying to cut console manufacturing costs by omitting the drive entirely, but they already do that but give the ability to get the separate drive so that doesn't feel like a good enough reason 100
Louie @woodhouse3d.com · 22/08/2026I think the main reason why all the console companies do all their physical games in house is piracy, as it opens the door for factories being able to potentially mass print counterfeit discs/carts. That being said, I do think they could stand to open the door trusting very very vetted publishers 100

All the textures for this painted world were created from actual Klimt paintings: boiethomsen.itch.io/secession 033
Louie @woodhouse3d.com · 18/07/2026Yeah this is a good point, I love a good smaller but really tightly done "open world" game instead of sprawling but empty. I guess Yakuza games are a good example of this. Now I want to do this too haha 010
Louie @woodhouse3d.com · 15/07/2026How are you baking the specular btw? I'm using substances baked lighting to get a faint downwards lighting to my PS2 models but it doesn't include specular unfortunately 100
Louie @woodhouse3d.com · 13/07/2026Always make sure to play some games the way they were originally intended whenever you can. 000
Louie @woodhouse3d.com · 11/07/2026Yeah Lynch was a big proponent of this concept. Letting ideas surface from your subconscious 030
Louie @woodhouse3d.com · 07/07/2026Nice! I make extensive use of the Unreal vertex painter tool for painting unique vertex colour shadows so this will be good to have for when/if I move over to Godot 😁 010
Louie @woodhouse3d.com · 07/07/2026Is this applied per world instance or is it changing the base mesh? Just wondering if you could have two meshes in the same scene with two different vertex colours 110
Louie @woodhouse3d.com · 05/07/2026Don't you have a Steam Deck? You could do it right now haha I played the whole of Dawntrail on mine. You don't have to do any weird setup stuff either, just install/run the launcher, let it download and hit play. No setup needed 030
Louie @woodhouse3d.com · 26/06/2026Yeah with a heavy heart I will likely switch to Godot for my next project. As much as I won't have a hard time moving from blueprints to Verse, I don't see a good future for Unreal anymore. UE6 feels built to benefit Fortnite, not actual users. 210
Louie @woodhouse3d.com · 25/06/2026Yeah even my Unreal 5 3D game runs at 90 FPS+ on the steam deck because it's PS2 style. We can still make lofi 3D games that run great on low end hardware 🙌 190

Louie @woodhouse3d.com · 17/06/2026Also it's annoying that the AI shit in UE6 might not be so bad because it does seem like you can just avoid it easily enough thankfully from looking at the videos but it really erodes what little faith remains that the whole engine isn't just entirely vibe coded crap 010
Louie @woodhouse3d.com · 17/06/2026One of the most annoying things is Verse is not bad, good in fact. Finally having a more accessible code language than C++ like Godotscript is to Godot is big but what the fuck are they thinking removing Blueprints? Actually insane shit 293
Louie @woodhouse3d.com · 17/06/2026Putting the AI slop to one side, I'm not even mad about the Verse stuff, that seems pretty good and I do like using Python, which it basically is, but I just don't know why blueprints can't live alongside it/as a part of it 😫 000
Louie @woodhouse3d.com · 17/06/2026Actually maybe I will just stick with UE5 forever. As long as I don't need to port to consoles, there is nothing stopping me haha I don't even really need more features tbh, I got all I need 110
Louie @woodhouse3d.com · 17/06/2026Oh god no 😭 If so then I guess I will stick out UE5 until I can't any longer and switch to Godot 😔 Why would they ruin a good thing 150
Louie @woodhouse3d.com · 16/06/2026I do feel expectations going in can be important with this, I went into it expecting/wanting a linear movie game and it delivered that strongly. But yeah the tactical Sims are a nice addition to actually mess around with the systems more at least 030
Louie @woodhouse3d.com · 15/06/2026Honestly geo is not that bad for disk space, definitely not for Nanite as the compression for that is like magic. Textures on the other hand are a real disk space killer 😅 100
Louie @woodhouse3d.com · 07/06/2026I like to do some photography but I realised I never post any of my photos here 040
Louie @woodhouse3d.com · 03/06/2026I know right? It's also crazy to have your game shown amongst Silent Hill haha 010

Reposted by LouieLouie @woodhouse3d.com · 26/05/2026I bake all my lighting and also hand paint some AO/shadows onto my models as well to really add in some detail, it really makes a good difference as this before and after shows 052
Louie @woodhouse3d.com · 26/05/2026Hmm hard to define, I do go a bit over what is realistic for PS2 on average but I think I just focus on what works well for the silhouette and readability. I sometimes go over because I do indeed use substance painter and I want to use the increased mesh detail to make texturing easier/faster 100
