So @playstation.com is pulling out of supporting / making physical discs. But why not allow 3rd party external Blu-Ray drives and publishers/developers to print their own discs? (Even Nintendo supports 3rd party webcams with Switch 2.) The issue is monopolistic, anti-consumer behavior.

I think the main reason why all the console companies do all their physical games in house is piracy, as it opens the door for factories being able to potentially mass print counterfeit discs/carts. That being said, I do think they could stand to open the door trusting very very vetted publishers

Though I also think part of it is trying to cut console manufacturing costs by omitting the drive entirely, but they already do that but give the ability to get the separate drive so that doesn't feel like a good enough reason
