The Distant Worlds of Uranus and Neptune - From Rolf Wahl Olsen - flic.kr/p/asv8Pf
This image shows Uranus with the four largest moons Oberon, Titania, Umbriel and Ariel - and Neptune with its large mooon Triton.
The image was taken with my 10" f/5 Serrurier truss Newtonian and is a composite of short exposures for the planet discs and longer exposures for the fainter moons. Miranda, the smallest of Uranus' five larger moons, was very close to Uranus when the image was taken and therefore lost in the glare of the planet itself in the long exposure image used to capture the moons. The orbits of the moons were added to illustrate the scale and orientation of the two systems as viewed from Earth, with South being towards the top of the image.
Both Uranus and Neptune are so far away from us that their angular diameters are only a few arcseconds, being 3.7" and 2.3" respectively. This makes it extremely difficult to discern any details on then and they nearly always appear as tiny cyan/blue balls except when imaged by large observatories or the Hubble Space Telescope. In fact, the entire orbit of Triton would easily fit behind the disc of Mars when the latter is at opposition. Still, with relatively modest equipment it is possible to get a good glimpse of these fascinating icy worlds.

I wish I could be a fly on the wall in SpaceX's launch control room today, it's been a really wild ride from ascent to now. "Ohhh god do we go to orbit? Okay... yessss, sure yeah okay we're going to orbit. But ☝️ not for long. Just long enough to make the Starlink people happy first."

You never know these days, a NASA press conference can really throw you for a loop… it could be a very normal update, hopefully even a good one! and then at the last moment it’ll be like “Starliner will replace Orion starting with Artemis VII and beyond” and then you just have to deal with that

They say SpaceX's Starbase Highway 4 is the ultimate roadside rocket-spotting spot, but this Long March 8A rollout has a vibe all its own. An orbital booster rolling upright past coastal roads and palm trees is a pretty spectacular sight!

Why is Wolf my nickname in online spaces? Well back when I started to explore my identity on a deeper level I think I went through nearly a dozen little experiments and most of them didn't stick, but Wolf is just simple, and to the point. Self confident, a little weird with it, the boot fits!

Somewhere in a distant planetary system, some civilization decided "the moon next to the one we live on looks pretty comfortable, maybe we should check it out?" For the most part they were correct, though their rover didn't last nearly as long as they hoped. "Meteorological malfunctions" they said.
A blue gas giant hangs in the sky above a colorful landscape, purple-red mountains in the distance tower over a terrain awashed by various sandy and dull green hues. A snaking trail in the dirt extends off towards the horizon, with a small rover wrapped in golden foil overturned on its bank. Following the trail leads the the base of a tornado, wrapped in a debris cloud. The funnel twists up into a stormy sky of heavy, chaotic clouds.

usually when i hear people say that the moon is a planet, i just have to shake my head. like, yes, if it’s a full moon? okay. you’ve got me there. a full moon is a circle and therefore a planet. outside of that, though, a planet either has to be a circle, like jupiter, or a dot, like stars

Moons drifting across the face of their parent gas giant, as planet-scale storms roar in the clouds below. This is an older one.
A narrow perspective of a ruddy brown gas giant, a small part of which fills the entire frame. Wavy cloud patterns shift and warp around two large white oval-shaped storms, with host whispy internal spiraling patterns. One storm is center frame, and the other is a only visible as a quarter segment seen in the lower right corner. Two dark shadows fall just to the left and top of the central storm, which are shadows corresponding to two moons in the left of the frame. One moon is grey with a series of dark rifts across its surface, the other is a bright white, with blue grooves and a yellowish crater on its terminator.

This is one of my favorite things I've ever made. I really wanted to make something that conveyed the scale of a supermassive black hole and the disks that surround them.
A giant swirling cloud of material spirals in space. The cloud flattens out into a hot flat blue-white disk at the center, but the gradient goes from white, orange, pink, and then green-brown as it rises over the cloudy toroidal disk. Stars are embedded into the disk, and a pair of freefloating ringed exoplanets floats together in the foreground.

The artist signature says Wolf because I use that moniker as an artist handle, and it has a deer hoof because deer are awesome.

A little speculative stellar art… what if other stars are more different than we expect?
An orange star with many large pairs of sunspots across its surface, its surface is divided by large cellular regions of deeper color, there are flares and prominences off its surface, and a transiting planet leaves a circular silhouette

For now, here's a fun doodle I did awhile back, depicting an interpretation of a spurious moon of Venus, Neith, which was once reported by astronomers way back in the 17th century. Obviously, it is well known today that Venus does not actually have any natural satellites. Still fun to draw!
A large, bright crescent shaped moon, with a white-grey coloration and shaded craters, hangs behind a tan-brown anvil cloud in a blue-green sky. Purple and blue bolts of lightning pierce through the clouds.
