this is annoying of me to post, but i really was dead scared about this climate reality in like 1997. people are surprised that the earth's habitability could break down within a human lifespan but the science was mostly all there 30 years ago and available to anyone willing to reckon with it

This may be a relatively minor thing for people, it may not but the whole phenomenon of 'Raise the Colours' and the shrug with which the government greeted it (IIRC at one point RtC was even tacitly endorsed?) continues to blow my mind.

The UK government: We're with Ukraine for as long as it takes. The "it" in this sentence apparently being "realising we're actually more worried about people having their holidays cancelled".

The US killing one and hundred fifty school children in a single attack on Iran has apparently been universally decided to be a non story by the Western press. Not front page news, not in the highlights, instantly memory holed. Profession and institutions worse than worthless.

Pleased to see the jury make this decision. We need to have eyes wide open this is exactly why the Government wants to abolish juries. People protesting against a genocide are not the criminals here - it's the politicians who continue to provide cover. www.bbc.co.uk/news/article...

People are seizing this as a crumb of comfort. However - the difference between the two ‘pathways’ is bad faith commitments - the actual outcome tracks uncomfortably close to the pre-Paris projection - ‘not where we should be’ is the understatement of the century

I think the key to understanding Britain is that JK Rowling’s oddball fantasy about an elite class of special people - far apart from the scum mass of regular humans - being trained by mad, cruel bastards to be weird, unpleasant, superior judgy wankers, is more or less accurate.

Simply abhorrent “To those who run Norway’s sovereign wealth fund: if you cannot do business with Caterpillar because Israel uses their products, maybe it’s time you’re made aware that doing business or visiting America is a privilege, not a right,” What a privilege, what a time to be alive

Disgusting bothsidesing on Gaza aid distribution by Lyse Doucet on BBC News at 10; ‘Israel would say this was brought on by Hamas’ well that would be collective punishment, a war crime, which you’re providing cover for by not pointing out.

The big difference for me is: Threatening an actual army is clearly not a viable or realistic threat. A terrorist act on a music festival clearly is. Appalling.

Also, it now allows the Mail and the Sun to point and screech at people protesting against the most serious crimes against humanity and say - with the backing of the law - that they are supporting terrorist groups. The Lake of Fire is truly going to be crowded, in a few decades.

It's not "bonkers".
' There's a clear logic to it. A
right wing authoritarian government is banning protest from a particular group for a particular cause in order to protect the interests of suppliers of lethal weapon components to a murderous regime that is committing genocide

After midnight posting this view may land me in prison - so here goes:
Yvette Cooper & the U.K. Government designating Palestine Action a terrorist organisation, based on the facts currently in the public domain, is bonkers.

Incredible that BP is now advertising in the US to show off that they are *not* investing much in net zero. ‘At BP, we’ve reset our strategy to grow value for shareholders … Transition activities are a much smaller but key part of our activities.’
