The irony of claiming to support better evidence using a poster full of fake kids

His argument acknowledges that though. His point is that the current overgenerous ratchet cannot be justified on the basis that it might redress inequality for future cohorts.

Me too, its not intrinsically ‘left wing’ ideologically and it would be more palatable to the establishment than if the left did it (they wouldn’t have to concede that the left was ‘correct’ on a major issue and could continue to paint them as deranged)

‘…as they gather outside Portsmouth hotel for nothing’ They put a lot of effort into that lynch mob but the intended victims were able to prove they were not actually seeking to escape danger in their own country so it was all for nothing

I was surprised by this. It’s as if the UKG action suddenly gave them cover for presenting the case for that action - which is so compelling that dissenting voices sound ridiculous. At a stroke we’ve crossed over into ‘everyone always knew’ territory

The press only have access to figures for tourists because Napalese officials have more pressing priorities right now than compiling missing lists. Inexcusable that the headline doesn’t reflect this.

this is annoying of me to post, but i really was dead scared about this climate reality in like 1997. people are surprised that the earth's habitability could break down within a human lifespan but the science was mostly all there 30 years ago and available to anyone willing to reckon with it

The right like to mantain deniability about their bigotry. If you’re a cultural icon who doesn’t confront them politically they’ll try to co-opt you as far as possible no matter how obvious your real allegiance, it’s how they operate.

True but it would reduce the number of head on collisions because drivers have more time to react and could not attempt dangerous overtakes. Most head-on collisions happen on single carriageway rural roads

Poor analogy because in the driving context speed = violence and the state has the means to prevent rather than punishing it after the fact
020
World Without End @withoutend.bsky.social · 25/08/2026
And the cheapest and most effective way to reduce head-on collisions is speed limiters

Did the CPA president really bring up helmets in his reponse to this case, or is the BBC dredging up something he has said in the past? Hard to tell from the article but ridiculous either way

The ultimate goal is to keep fossil fuels in the ground. To do that individual countries need to quickly cut both extraction and demand to zero. The damage done by a G7 nation abandoning that international principle far exceeds any marginal efficiency benefit from using ‘home-grown’ energy

There’s so much going on there: the ‘cloud on the horizon’ juxtaposed with wine and bbq tips, the ‘Stay sharp’ sidebar heading. It feels like it has to be a deliberate statement about cognitive dissonance, but more likely just emerged as such accidentally.

No surprise that the location selects for insane levels of cope, although they’ll probably say anything that helps maintain their property value. Mad that the writer goes on to use that to try to resurrect and then ‘both-sides’ 1960’s planning principles.

Perhaps there’s a ‘latent’ difference for those who would support legislation but would not be prepared to put themselves at economic or social disadvantage voluntarily. Not sure what good that is, but probably applies to us all to some extent.

This may be a relatively minor thing for people, it may not but the whole phenomenon of 'Raise the Colours' and the shrug with which the government greeted it (IIRC at one point RtC was even tacitly endorsed?) continues to blow my mind.

It is, galling as it is to be seen to reinforce that, i think for some audiences pulling at one thread of establishment narrative is a better tactic than trying to take it on all at once.

Most of the audience will believe that’s what we’ve stood, for so makes sense to try to argue from within that mindset

Seems the core problem is that they are legally structured to protect investment returns for future promotion of religious ideology. That’s the problem with religion they’d rather promote a fiction than examine how best to do actual good

If the bbc want to ‘both-sides’ this, then they should present arguments why the IDF is not committing genocide. That is tricky given the weight of evidence so they fall back on ‘let’s wait for a court judgement’. Obviously incorrect and should be called out as such every time they use it
020
World Without End @withoutend.bsky.social · 10/07/2026
The BBC needs to be challenged every time they roll out this disgusting ‘hold on, it hasn’t been judged to be a war crime yet’ line. For reasons that should be blindingly obvious that is not a defence under international law. In fact an indicator of guilt to bring the argument onto that ground.

I’m saying the team should have taken a stand for the integrity of the sport by ignoring FIFA’s suspension of the one match ban. The validity of the red card decision (which FIFA made clear they do not dispute) is not relevant to the team’s decision not to do that

Their usual omertà on those topics is particularly exposed because it’s the ‘left’ who are the key actors. They’re therefore forced to play a parlour game of explaining why he was rejected by the party through the medium of right wing talking points like the farm tax

World Without End @withoutend.bsky.social · 22/06/2026
Oh right, good point best wait for the court case before we recognise genocide then, wouldn’t want to prejudice the trial (when’s that scheduled for?)

‘Fears’, really? The framing of this headline very generously gifts them a presumption of good faith that they have done absolutely nothing to earn. With that sleight of hand you’re helping protect them from accountability for a disgusting war crime. Great work.

Since the government started locking people up for planning ‘disruptive’ protest, it is likely that all protest will be planned secretly. With the logic of this judgement it will therefore be deemed to be terrorist.

I’m not sure why the article goes on that little diversion (after talking to a professor who had nothing to do with the paper). The paper itself eliminates handedness as a cause by demonstrating anticlockwise bias in a group made entirely of left-handed people
