It's me, that guy you know from real life, or maybe from Twitter! Making my name unsearchable to fundamentalist evangelicals since 2020.

I know people in the MTG world hate on Energy as a mechanic — and for good reason since it's often very poorly implemented — but I just realized the reason I really enjoy my energy deck is because it gives me a simple little engine-builder mini-game to play while I play, and that's nice for me.

I grew up primarily using Apple computers; our first family computer was a pre-OSX Power Macintosh and my first personal computer was a pre-Intel iBook G4. I say that just to say I have decades of experience with MacOS. I JUST NOW learned you can hold Option for extra right-click menu items.

Not sure I'd say Death Stranding stuck the landing, but the big twist at the end was fun. Kinda wish some of that plot could've been paced out more through the rest of the game instead of making me watch a feature-length cutscene at the end, but I guess I shouldn't be surprised considering.

Death Stranding is fascinating for the way its themes flip back and forth between feeling childishly and naively straightforward and optimistic and feeling like everything has been an enormous and hopelessly complex web of lies. There is no in-between and I can't tell which way it's gonna go.

I just now learned that Intel and Nvidia are NOT in fact the same company. I don't know why, but I've thought for like 2 decades that Nvidia was a subsidiary of Intel.

I finally tried the new Ghost In The Shell, and while I love the art style and the lighthearted tone, it takes SO MUCH energy to watch because the exposition is SO DENSE and you have to choose between subs that move at lightning speed or a dub that's buried in the mix without closed captioning.

I’m not the first person to make this observation but the prevalence of nauseating ai-generated business logos means stuff like this hits CRAZY for me now

@badmachinery.com I've been re-reading Steeple as it's being released on Webtoon, and the latest issue has 2 of my favorite comics moments in it, lol. I love Rev. Penrose
A panel from Steeple, in which Rev. Penrose says, "Maggie's not my wife.", and Charlotte says, "So you're married to the old lady? I can... see how that might've happened?"A panel from Steeple, in which Rev. Penrose stands sternly in the doorway, a very serious expression on his face, holding a ream of A4 printer paper, and saying, "Maggie? How do I print a picture across multiple pieces of paper?"

"But Meredith! Texans are nonvoters. I have never been to Texas but I know more about Texas than you. I am very smart." They're nonvoters because our voting rights keep getting gutted. And a lot of folks are genuinely apathetic because nothing good ever happens. Voter apathy IS voter suppression.

Watch this the next time you want to say that all Texans are ignorant hicks who deserve everything bad that happens to them. Watch these people fight. Watch how our voting rights keep getting stripped away as they have been for over a decade. If you won't help, then shut up and get out of the way.

This is incredible, there's details in her performance that I never noticed because they're so fast and such tiny intervals, but slowed down you can hear her laser-precise pitch and timing. But she's not just technical, there's also so much feeling, and nailing both of those at once is such a feat.

I just discovered an ADHD trick! If you're having trouble reading things on the computer, especially if it's long blocks of text, try minimizing everything else and then sizing the window down to where you can only see about 5 or 6 lines at a time, and each line is about 12 words long, max.

NGC 5972 - From Judy Schmidt (geckzilla.bsky.social) - flic.kr/p/jTFaCU
I can't explain this because it's too weird. I saw the image processed at this article and decided I wanted to try processing away some of those cosmic rays. Anyway, read that blog entry if you want to know more about it.

I spread the filters across the channels slightly to give it a more balanced look but [O III] is still represented by blue and Halpha is red.

The data is pretty noisy because it's all medium and narrowband imagery. Can't really be helped. Well, not without a bunch more orbits.

Giant Ionized Clouds Around Local AGN - Obscuration and History (HST Proposal 12525)

Red: WFC3/UVIS F763M + WFC3/UVIS F673N + WFC3/UVIS F621M
Green: WFC3/UVIS F621M + ACS/WFC F505N
Blue: ACS/WFC F505N

North is NOT up. I'm not actually sure which way is up. Sorry about that.

The image is of a four panel comic.
Panel one shows a giraffe tripping on a rock. The giraffe says “woop” as it stumbles.
Panel two zooms in on the giraffe’s face. The giraffe is sweating in embarrassment. We see a thought bubble above the giraffe. The text within the thought bubble reads, “that was embarrassing.”
The third panel shows the giraffe closing its eyes and munching on leaves reassuringly. The thought bubble above the giraffe reads, “but no one will remember.”
The fourth and final panel pans to an elephant staring at the giraffe from behind some bushes.

A ttrpg Podcast just described a character as "In her early 40s, thin from age — you can see what used to be muscle wearing down, a slight curve to her back — her hair is grayed." I'm losing my mind 🤣💀 Oh my gosh I just looked it up and the GM was 33! What did he think happens in those 10 years???

Don't look now, but the world has now installed 3TW of solar. Took 10 years to get from 100GW to 1TW. Less than 3 years to get to 2TW. Less than 2 years to get to 3TW. Analysts expect *9TW* by 2036.

I think the fundamental thing the Suno guy gets twisted about music (besides the obvious theft thing) is something most people in the west get wrong, which is that while everyone deserves to *make music*, that's NOT the same thing as *recording music*, and NOT everyone deserves the latter.

Every once in a while I think about that time in my 20s when I was chatting to an elderly regular from my old Starbucks, and he just very casually and even amiably told me I was going to hell because I wasn't Catholic. That might've been where it all started, now that I think about it...

Reading some literature-people's critiques of The Odyssey saying it's all-style-no-substance, poorly-written, & lacking in nuance, & I'm starting to think Nolan's strength is his ability to give the average person an experience of artistic rapture without having to become a "literature person"...

I don't think it's a stretch to say that legal slavery was always their goal, subconscious or not. Rich white men just can't shake the habit. But they couldn't enslave people so they had MAKE their own slaves. Maybe it just doesn't scratch the itch unless they claim it's sentient.
