Marketing every new fantasy with a romantic element as romantasy does a disservice to readers and writers. Romance & fantasy have different expectations (no shade to either), so a romance in a fantasy setting is NOT THE SAME as a fantasy with romantic subplots. Everyone just ends up annoyed

Actually one thing I'll say. I'll say this. Channeling hate symbols? That's fine. That's okay. AI hate? This Is Hate And Harassment. Self-Admitted Mass reporting an account for NSFW over a thigh slit? We Must Shield Everyone Now.

Cool. Minority users on the site cannot point out that entirely hypothetical people who aren’t even in the conversation might not practice critical thinking because that’s apparently targeted harassment. Ticket was straight up locked.

I get that community moderation is overwhelming, but point-blank: your site should not have a community section if you cannot differentiate harassment from generalized negativity. Sweeping valid user opinion and discussion under the rug to pretend nothing bad ever happens sucks.

Did you know you only need a small brain to make silly little drawings?

4 panel comic:
Panel 1: pink blob guy on a table, pencil in their hands. Grey circle on a piece of paper and a glass of water on the table. They say “look here”
Panel 2: Proudly, they hold up the drawing of a grey blobby character on two stick legs up in the air. The pink blob says “I drew this!”
Panel 3: Satisfied they sit back down on the table. They now go “it’s not much, but..” The grey drawing looks a bit peeved because the drawer is calling it “not much”
Panel 4: But it’s okay, because now the pink blob is very pleased finally. He says “it came from my brain!” Holding the pencil up. The grey drawing blob is happy again, too. End well, all well!

hating your art is not a virtue, it's a sign of burn out or mental illness. the same way your muscles ache if you exercise too much or your stomach hurts if you're starving. learn to identify it as a sign you're pushing too hard or expecting too much of yourself somehow and check in with yourself.

anyway, today i'm thinking about how stormblood is about the girls, yes, but on a metatextual level, it's also about the ways different kinds of women, across different ages and backgrounds and personalities, are feared—both in the text itself, and how fandom at large treats this expansion

we aren't in a "fanfic recession" but that someone decided to use these terms to complain reveals the real problem; a lot of 'fans' are thinking like shareholders and executives, devaluing creative work, refusing to support the artists they have, and looking at everything with the lens of profit

Many don’t have the means to go out with friends IRL and/or are part of marginalized communities in their countries where in many instances they can be legally penalized and/or even killed. Online communities are very important, but it’s also equally important to be cautious & curate your space.
