My parents must have rented Towering Inferno on video because there was a bit where the lift arrives, the doors open, and the person/people inside are all on fire, most dead...one staggers out and dies in the open. Ugh.

Great War plane repair for day 3 of the art challenge. #artober #cats

An ink drawing of an anthropomorphic cat worker, probably a mechanic, working on a WW1 era biplane. It looks like they are affixing a new propeller to the plane. The plane is similar in design to a Nieuport 17.

Yes, genuinely very interesting! Glad this is happening so if the bureaucracy could please stop banging on about using LLMs to write slides and go harder at this stuff (especially building the talent pool at all levels) that'd be great.

A reblog with a good reason to mention "Flying Camelot" by Michael W. Hankins; a great book which covers the F-16 (and F-15) development really well and gave me more ammunition for my anti-Boyd feelings ;)

My 1st trip to America. Off Qantas at LAX & onto Delta for a flight to SLC. Ground stop due to the weight & balance system somehow having crashed. Sat there for 3+ hours with this movie repeating on the drop-down screens, took off & they restarted it. Jet-lagged fever-dream full of elephants ;)

I knew I was *quite* out of touch with what's good on TV but I didn't know how *wildly* out of touch I was! I think the only shows on this list I saw ALL of were Chernobyl, The Americans, & Mare of Easttown. I saw the odd episode of 30 Rock, Battlestar Galactica, and Parks & Rec back in the day.

Since it seems to be required that the Texas song needs an opinion from old/out-of-touch people (I'm both): I think she has a super voice. It's catchy. What's not to like? Having said that I was also amused by the lyrics in the local version: www.youtube.com/watch?v=3aHh...

Read a couple of fiction books this weekend. The Lost Soldiers (Andrey Kurkov) was very enjoyable with interesting characters & setting (time & place) to develop a good mystery plot! The Ending Writes Itself was a decent quick-read thriller/murder, good for plane trips or beach/cosy reading :)

Two hardback book covers. One is Andrey Kurkov's "The Lost Soldiers", and the other is "The Ending Writes Itself" by Evelyn Clarke.

CASI has been hands down filled with some of the best, most focused, and most informative scholars I have ever met. They’ve been worth their weight in gold in every briefing I’ve been at with them. This is a deep mistake that will rob us of critical expertise in exchange for saving spare change.

In a digital world, our card catalogues remain a much-loved feature of Cambridge University Library. These cabinets contain the records of 20th-century material kept in the tower. Searching under "Best" shows how varied our collections are – from Best Cat Stories to George Best's autobiography!

A metal card catalogue drawer pulled open, featuring a brass label frame on the front containing a handwritten paper insert that reads "BES - BIBLE".
