Interesting contrast in the station signage at Chalfont and Latimer station with the older signs spelling the name correctly and in full, whilst the newer signs use the ampersand. Personally, I prefer the “AND” version!

Why do businesses continue to use Facebook as their “website”? I’m trying to look at a micropub but because it’s deemed to be “over 18/adult content” I have to create a FB account to view it. Sorry, they can do one - I’m not helping Zuck in any way!

In other news, I saw my first live badger yesterday - we have them in Ickenham. The road I live in has no street lights and this one came sauntering out of a garden as I was walking home last night. Saw me and scuttled back in the opposite direction. Actually quite thrilled to see one!

Open House Weekend, so taken the opportunity to visit Swakeleys House, built 1638 and which is literally two minutes walk from me. Now owned by a property company who are doing the bare minimum to engage with the community. Two rooms and one staircase open - but better than nothing I guess!

THREAD/Today marks the 86th anniversary of "Black Saturday" - 7th September 1940, what would prove to be the first day of the London Blitz. The docks, the East End, Woolwich Arsenal and the entire eastern half of London suffered most on this day. Here we see the first of two photographs taken by...

Apart from the remnants of the church transferred to nearby St Lukes, the apartments built on the site which bears the name of the late church, are the only reminder of the "other" St Paul's, the first church to be destroyed in this country during the Second World War.

War Damage compensation was assessed at £3,823 in July 1943 but it wasn't until March 1956 that the Church Commissioners agreed to sell the site to the Metropolitan Borough of Greenwich for £2,000. A new apartment block was built on the site, which was named St Paul's Close, in memory of the church.

a few items that could be salvaged, such as the crucifix and two attendant figures and part of the reredos, which today form part of the Lady Chapel of nearby St Luke's Church, the building remained derelict for the remainder of the war. The church was de-consecrated and demolished after the war.

However, these attacks had been inching closer to London and at 21:40 on Wednesday 4 September, a solitary aircraft flew low over the church and dropped a high explosive bomb, which fell squarely on the roof of the building, almost completely destroying it. The next morning, the ruins presented a...

right into the 1930s. Sadly, the life of the church was to come to an abrupt halt in the early days of September 1940. At this time, the Luftwaffe's activities had been limited to attacks on RAF airfields, Channel convoys and targets that were deemed to be of strictly military value.
