Day 14 in a UK state secondary. I need to improve how I nip multiple low level disruptions in the bud & make better use of our sanction system. Any tips would be gratefully received. Toilet requests, asking for tissues, pens, wanting to fill ware bottles - all usefully coinciding with written tasks.

A year’s work coming to fruition. Delighted to see Discover Geography now publishing. This is more than a textbook series. It’s a complete KS3 / lower secondary curriculum package designed for both UK and international contexts.

After 17 years of teaching in private schools, I taught 30 minutes in a state school today. And. It. Felt. Goooood.

So... When I am ensconced as an English teacher in the UK, what is the very first conference I should go to? #whatfest

The teacher who came in from the cold. That's the 1st blog in almost 3 years. There's a new game in town: reigniting the dream of social mobility.

The best bit? I got to spend time in a great staffroom with a wonderfully diverse and intellectually vibrant bunch of teachers. A good staffroom is a thing to cherish. It is a glorious box of the most nutty cats.

This is a brilliant take-down of that heavy lifting the I is doing in AI. Outline details - pretty good. Drill down - a hopeless desert of nonsense. Oh, and the author *hasn't* used hallucinating. Humans hallucinate. Machines get things wrong. DEFINE IT. #openai #chatgpt #gemini #grok

Moral dilemma time: legally, I have a 2-month notice period here in CZ and it's normal here for teachers to come and go at any point in the year. If I see April start English jobs, should I go for them, or will I come across really badly?

I haven’t discussed either of those with anyone on here or in my school. To be honest, most teachers and involved in any kind of debate. Most of the discussion at my school is about teaching and learning.

I'm applying for jobs in UK secondary schools after 17 years in international schools. What are the big issues being debated currently in secondary education? I've seen the increased spend on SEND and the strengthening of teaching unions. Anything I should know?

Just finished 'Brooklyn' by Colm Toibin, with a view to teaching it (it's on the IGCSE syllabus). Struggling to find any literary merit: seems to be Mills and Boon dressed as identitarian angst. I can see why expat teachers like it. Not sure who else will.

How long before we set online homework using AI, pupils use AI to do the work for them, the results get put into a report using AI which is emailed to parents, automatically summarised and replied to using a single click on predictive text?

I picked up my first pair of varifocals yesterday. It's like living in a fishbowl. Takes a lot of getting used to, but it's nice to be able to read books and then look at people across the living room. All in one fell swoop.
