The future of LLMs has to be local right? Like, I get why training requires a data center (and a bunch of stolen data), but with increasing efficiency, local application of those models is heading toward being trivial

Did you know you can search for R packages by what they do, as opposed to just their names? Look! 👉🏼 rwarehouse.netlify.app @kylieainslie.bsky.social made The Warehouse for just this purpose. Send it to a new R programmer today ❤️ because it's the resource we all wish we'd had at some point #rstats

Pretty disappointed Anthropic is forcing opencode to drop Pro/Max support. opencode is really the best experience of all the LLM CLI tools out there today. And the avoidance of vendor lock-in is really great.

I noticed opencode doesn't have a default LSP for #rstats. I'm a bit confused as to what custom LSP should be used with opencode as there seems to be air, Ark, and languageserver. Anyone have thoughts?

Say you have some observations and a black box model (e.g., compiled and you can't change anything about it). You can programmatically manipulate the model parameters and compare results to observations. That's it. What tool do you use to tune the parameters? Bonus for any #bayesian tools

Published today: our paper on the ~100 year ice record on Mohonk Lake, a mtn top lake in upstate NY. Ice is forming later, and variability in duration and ice clearance has increased substantially. Notably, recent years have seen intermittent ice cover. bit.ly/mohonkWinter
Ice phenology in Mohonk Lake from 1932 to 2023. Dates of ice‐on and ice‐off are plotted as points. A line segment connects the ice‐on and ice‐off in the same water year and the length and color gradient and point fill correspond to ice‐cover duration. The black line indicates significant Theil‐Sen's slope ( p < 0.05). Triangles indicate years where only ice‐on or ice‐off was recorded.
