This isn’t funny but it is hilarious. I’m so sorry to everyone who had to go to school with this guy.
Following Lee's dismissal, Moraff struggled to find work as a political consultant. He instead focused his efforts on attending Yale Law School.

Yes. Currently, the job of "hard-working honest legislator" sucks and pays below-market while the job of "lazy corrupt legislator" is awesome and lucrative. The former should be a job good people want and can take regardless of economic circumstances, thereby crowding out applicants for the latter.

there is a cohort of men who resent the responsibilities and obligations of adulthood — of the fact that you owe things to other people. it is a fundamentally childish impulse that they have reconfigured as the height of masculinity, and i think it informs the parasocial attraction to platner.

This is a prime example of why right-wing populism slides so easily into antisemitism. You need a populist framing of "the people" versus "the elites," but you can't frame the elites in strictly economic terms, or else you end up with leftism. Hence you need another way to define "elites."

one thing we touch on a bit here is that the argument that racism was essentially solved and therefore required no further intervention was popular among reactionaries as early as the 1870s

In a sane world (an alt reality) today's dissents would sufficient to warrant Thomas, Gorsuch and Alito's impeachment and removal from office. If you defy the plain words, meaning, intent, history, precedent of a black letter constitutional injunction u are abusing your power and should be removed.

His "best effort" was pulling an executive order out of his ass with no build-up or media push for it beforehand, and he still got 4 justices to agree with him. The plain text of the constitution was upheld 5-4. This is unsustainable, so what is your plan to actually defend the constitution?

This birthright ruling is why I just refuse to tolerate all the Democrat garment rending over NY voters choosing progressive candidates. They are incapable of governing in this moment. The politics of appeasement and centrism gets us to a 5-4 decision on the constitutional question.

That's right.
During the ratification debates, Senator Cowan took aim
at the Roma people too, characterizing them as undeserving
of birthright citizenship because they “wander[ed] in
gangs,” “infest[ed] society,” and “impos[ed] upon the simple
and weak everywhere.”49 And again, Senator Conness dismissed Senator Cowan’s prejudices: “The only invasion of
Pennsylvania within my recollection was an invasion very
much worse and more disastrous to the State, and more to
be feared and more feared, than that of Gypsies. It was an
invasion of rebels [at Gettysburg].

The answer is he took the party very far right from where they've always been in the attempt to court right wing voters, and then inevitably lost all their left wing support without gaining right wing support. All of the individual issues people are saying here are examples of that.

It is absolutely true that Dems need to win swing voters to win elections. The misdiagnosis is that swing voters are “moderates.” They are not. They have almost entirely incoherent politics. You don’t win them from the middle. You appeal to your base with conviction and hope swings like the vibes.
