turns out if you add a lot of texture to the underside of a nudibranch and invert it you get a great monster design

a monster that's basically the underside of a nudibranch, full of whorls and nodules

made something for the game I haven't finished in three years: fish ones. i think i found the perfect xerox look recipe (although xerox hell by @chaoclypse.bsky.social is awesome as well, and i wouldn't need to fiddle in Photoshop for every image)

two people lying in the beach, topless. one of them has a fish head. the other has as fish eye, but an otherwise human head

when i was at the mental clinic one day there was a movie about brie larson and unicorns on the tv and when a fucking unicorn appeared a guy had an episode. he was triggered by unicorns. a) no one can predict people's triggers because life's experiences are infinite or b) it was brie larson's fault?

this is also something I've said before & should write about one day: if you're making art, you should know what it's *about*. this should be obvious, but somehow isn't. most stuff i see only knows plot descriptions or tropes or aesthetics. it's not that. what is it trying to understand or express?

This game captures the ordered chaos of cities themselves, throwing the often over-taxonomized genre of urban fantasy into disarray and injecting messy queerness into the spaces created. So give it a chance and let some BDSM werewolves on bikes into your gaming table wendiy.itch.io/here-there-b...

It's an eclectic mix of backgrounds, and its mild lack of coherence is a strength rather than a weakness. You're asked to imagine a world where a Witch, a Firestarter, an Ooze, and a Clown would come together to fight Nazis and cops. Is that so hard to imagine? Somehow it is not

The game itself is mostly a list of 100 different backgrounds, each one delightfully twisted and strange and unique. You could have a party made up of an Escaped Human Sacrifice, a Magician, an Artist, and a Failed Experiment (what I got by rolling 4d100 just now)

It's a real feast for the eyes: bodies in all states of (un)dress, folklore depictions from around the world, aliens, animals, mindbending collage, paper textures. The game really feels like it's a manual for resisting fascists created by the very people being targeted

I mean, this game is positively dripping with (bodily) juice, all impeccably enhanced by almost entirely PUBLIC DOMAIN ART. Turns out that all you need to make a game with a cohesive and effective visual aesthetic is an actual point of view and some interesting art direction

wendi yu @wendiyu.bsky.social · 30/03/2026

damn that makes me so so so proud 🥰 (this whole chain is pure gold) (i should write one day about making collage art with public domain sources) (btw the only piece in the book that wasn't by lino arruda or me was a doodle of a ghoul by a friend who loves ghouls and gave it to me as a gift)

some thoughts from the Nuremberg Toy Museum

a white wall with "in the beginning was play", in english and german, written on it. in front of it, a table with assorted wooden toys.

a dark brown wooden table with words written on it.
"TOYS ARE POLITICAL
Toys are made by people.
They implicitly embody ideals, attitudes and educational functions. Toys are not always innocent." in light brown letters, and the same in german in white letters.

a dark brown wooden table with words written on it.
"TOYS ARE IMAGINATION
A toy doesn't have to be bought in a store — not at all! No matter where you are in the world : a thing + imagination = a toy. Anything can be a toy." in light brown letters, and the same in german in white letters.
