There was no glory in trying to shoot the tiger with a rifle. There was no glory in killing it with The Great Tiger Bow. There were only people trying to protect themselves and their livelihood from from destruction. And even with all of those measures, someone still died!

The man made it to the trap, and the tiger was caught, all three arrows hitting their mark and gouging deep into the shoulder of the beast. And STILL the tiger managed to reach and maul the man, even as it died, and STILL he died before he was discovered in the morning.

It was essentially a massive trap - a meticulously arranged, massive bow, with three arrows that were coated in feces to make them poisonous. One night, a man noticed he was being hunted, and he fled toward the Great Tiger Bow trap.

My great uncle was a jesuit priest in remote India in the 50s, and he wrote a book about his time there. There was a tiger causing problems near the villages, and he had no luck hunting it with his rifle. So an elder in the village - one of the only people who knew how - set up The Great Tiger Bow.

That's not to say climate change is over and we can declare victory but the path to zero carbon is now extremely obvious and achievable and its mostly a matter of time (and how much damage we inflict along the way) rather than an existential danger we might not solve.

Welcome to Shrimp City! Teach your friends about a variety of crustaceans with this helpful visual aid - and set the record straight... bugs is shrimp. Shrimp is not bugs These shirts are designed by @the666cat.bsky.social & printed in Philly! Get one at SquidFacts.net (pls RT!)
A cream colored shirt with a red and blue design featuring 9 crustaceans and a fly. A scuba diving Fly Says a”am I shrimp too?” A pistol shrimp wearing a cowboy hat says “bang bang” a mantis shrimp says KO, the title says a”shrimp city and friends” a hermit crab uses a skull
As a shell, a jumbo shrimp is labeled himbo shrimp, and a yeti crab is labeled “snack bacteria cafe”. The fly has an asterisk next to
Him and underneath the whole design it says *the latest research shows that bugs is actually shrimp”

What animal is the most abundant on earth in terms of biomass? I'm having a surprisingly hard time figuring it out, I guess because the category of "animal" is kind of hard? There's tons of ants, but most of them are pretty different. What about humans? Cattle? Krill? Cyclothones? Earthworms?

A weird trend I've noticed (which is probably just confirmation bias) is that the WSJ has been more straightforwardly critical of the Trump regime than NYT or Wapo as of recent. I get why NYT and WAPO got worse, why did WSJ get better? Or were they always somewhat neutral and just stayed the same?

Discworld QOTD, from Feet of Clay
No more kings. Vimes had difficulty in articulating why this should be so, why the concept resonated in his very bones. After all, a good many of the patricians had been as bad as any king. But they were...sort of...bad on equal terms. What set Vimes's teeth on edge was the idea that kings were a different kind of human being. A higher lifeform. Somehow magical.

Looks like a good deal for the WNBA. The current average salary is $102,000; this would be 6 times that! Max salary was $250,000; this would rise to nearly 6x. Players currently get 9% of league revenues; this would be substantially higher. Our story from February: prospect.org/2026/02/10/f...

I will never get over how beautiful the ribbed fins of Chtenopteryx are. Truly, they are nature's perfect ruffle chips. 🦑📷Steven Kovacs
A blackwater photo of Chtenopteryx squid. It has translucent skin, but it is covered in brilliant orange chromatophores, which completely cover the mantle, most of the head, the upper arms and lower fins. Its arms and tentacles are neatly spread out. Its fins have fin ribs at regular intervals, making it look like a comb or a ruffle chip.

Josh Marshall on the mistaken assumption that there is “a” reason why we attacked Venezuela. I have an odd perspective on this, since I spent ages fixating on the analogous question about Iraq. It started when I noticed that none of the books about how we went to war in Iraq mentioned a DECISION.

I've made tons of decks like this. My strategy is always to take one of my good draft decks and add a few more of the good commons/uncommons to fill the deck out, and maybe remove anything too complex. Usually can outcompete the starter decks from the store!

Fascinating article, but I don't totally understand the context. Are you saying that China should be providing stimulus on the consumer side as well to help encourage people to actually buy these cars? Then maybe they cool off the supply side subsidies to lower production?

Finally, for this challenge, you have to be bold. There's no trophy for second place! Better to go out on a limb with an opinion that is against the grain than to play it safe and end up middle of the pack (But don't stray from ALL conventional wisdom... the margins are ultimately very small)

My other miss: gene pollinator. I typically don't expect build-arounds like this to have high WR, because if you don't get the density you need, then your deck can fall flat. But GP is generically pretty good, and it plays better than it reads, so again only good players will play it.

wederer.bsky.social - Winner of the EOE #P0P1 Challenge 🏆 @wederer.bsky.social · 29/08/2025
There's also a lot of luck :) when you pick the extra commons, you want to pick the best colors of the set, which is almost impossible to predict before playing.

wederer.bsky.social - Winner of the EOE #P0P1 Challenge 🏆 @wederer.bsky.social · 29/08/2025
For 2CUDS, usually you just gotta pick the most egregious 2-mana one. Biomechan engineer is disgusting, and it's also high value over replacement compared to every other 2 drop (and almost every other card at every stage of the game...lol). The 3+ mana ones almost never compete with a good 2 drop

Biosynthic Burst is a reprint of Gaea's Gift from BRO. For almost any card in a new set, you can find a 17lands analog in a previous set for comparison, and that card happened to be the best green common - plus, it doesn't read better than other pump spells, meaning only good players will play it

wederer.bsky.social - Winner of the EOE #P0P1 Challenge 🏆 @wederer.bsky.social · 29/08/2025
I also highly pick the good "glue" cards - they give you efficient cardboard that is going to drive the engine in multiple decks. Cryogen Relic, Galactic Wayfarer, Virus Beetle - lots of decks in this format would be happy with 6 or more copies Knight Luminary also qualifies, which I missed

wederer.bsky.social - Winner of the EOE #P0P1 Challenge 🏆 @wederer.bsky.social · 29/08/2025
Orbital Plunge reminded me of Excavation Explosion in BRO, which also played better than it looked, thanks to the free token. Depressurize is very efficient, but I think it suffers from my first point - it's so good that everyone plays it, which counterintuitively makes its winrate closer to 50%
120
wederer.bsky.social - Winner of the EOE #P0P1 Challenge 🏆 @wederer.bsky.social · 29/08/2025
Removal is always a strong bet, but it often gets picked so highly that the winrate balances a little lower. Prioritize only the best removal, or when it gives you a bonus. Banishing light was exciting to me because it plays so well against spacecraft both before and after flipping.

Wow!!! It's hard to overstate just how happy this makes me. I haven't had the chance to draft much for the last few sets but it seems like I still got it!! I always make a limited PowerPoint for my friends before each set and my credibility just shot way up 😂
