Having a rough night and just went to survey even though it’s a little drizzly and realized my light is damaged in a potentially critical spot and not only is it an expense, they don’t offer this one anymore unless I beg for a custom which will probably cost more than they used to + take more time.

During a gelatinous plankton survey at the end of August I came across this gorgeous Cumanotus fernaldi nudibranch swimming at the surface. It was like it was doing the breaststroke with its cerata. 🐙🦑🌿

While making this post I learned that sea slugs go through a metamorphosis from baby to adult! In which they have shells they then ditch when they’re ready to grow up! No clue they did this, do think it’s insanely cool & ty to Jamie for the veliger pic @noncompliantcyborg.bsky.social

Really frustrating having your health insurance coverage end but they don’t actually deactivate your plan for weeks so your new plan refuses to pay for anything and your providers are unable to bill correctly & then 10+ calls + weeks later when it’s “fixed” your prescriptions still are being denied

I’ve been using it for a year and have hit 6000+ but far fewer Ctenophora than you (39 observations of 4 species) but I did see my first Beroe gracilis yesterday- here it is with a Sea Gooseberry inside it which barely fits!

I’ve got photos, names & sizes for all “jellies” on my Salish Sea pelagic invert ID guides. Adding details for each + colored markers for bioluminescence, which is taking a while. I’ve witnessed a lot & @stevehaddock.bsky.social’s 1999 spectra analysis paper helped but there’s a lot more to find.

How I knew I was meant to be driving to see the ctenophores last week:
