There are many women in the IceCube collaboration who could have shared in a group prize. And IceCube in particular has done a good job of recognizing the contributions of collaborators from groups underrepresented in physics.

Immediately after awarding the prize to a single scientist (which hasn't happened since 1992, by the way) the committee also shared this quote by him: www.facebook.com/photo/?fbid=...

I'm not surprised. Many particle physicists feel the same way. ”I hope this reflects on the really courageous people who joined me in the beginning of this project when no respectable conservative physicists would have joined me, but many talented people did, and that's why I'm here.”

Another Nobel Prize in Physics that could have gone to a collaboration instead of an individual. Congrats to my @sfuscience.bsky.social colleagues who work on IceCube. 👩🏻‍🔬 ⚛️ 🧪 🎢

Oh I shd add: Deisseroth’s work was (say it w me!) supported with public funding through federal science agencies incl NIH, NSF, and DARPA. And I daresay few political deciders in 2004 would have been excited to put algal proteins in HEK cells or neurons. Scientists knew, though.

Answer: New NSF Astro-Core has "target submission date" of Nov 16! From the NASEM Committee on Astronomy and Astrophysics meeting last week, Chris Smith said this "is not a deadline but proposals submitted after the target date may be considered for funding in the following fiscal year" (see pic). 🔭
FY27 Core Astronomical Sciences
• Similar to previous AAG solicitation:
o All areas of astronomy are eligible
o Observational, archival data analysis, laboratory, theoretical, computational,
ML/AI.
• Target submission date: Monday, November 16.
o Target date is not a deadline, but proposals submitted after the target date
may be considered for funding in the following fiscal year.
• Can be combined with Dear Colleague Letter and supplement
programs
• Genesis-Mission, CDS&E, RUI, REU, RET, ROA
