In 1963’s Fantastic Four Annual #1, Prince Namor’s Atlantis conquers NYC & parades its armies through the city streets.The Kirby/Ayers effectively captures the moment , but Stan Lee’s script has a watching woman expressing not defiance or despair or fear, but rather how she’s got the hots for Namor.

Colour landscape panel. The victorious army of Atlantis parades past New York’s Washington Square wielding spears, swords and banners. They all wear sealed helmets full of water. Namor and Warlord Krang ride in a yellow vehicle which has aspects evoking a sea shell. A few human onlookers watch on. One red haired woman in the background thinks how “regal” looks in his “simple swimming trunks”.

Four double-page spreads from 1974’s all-too-short series “OMAC” by Jack Kirby & D. Bruce Berry. With every passing year OMAC reveals itself to be more & more prescient. The first few issues in particular spell out Kirby’s fears about a future controlled by the super-rich & their super-technology.

A huge many legged monster towers over an indomitable OMAC, while huge talking overlook the conflict in a wasteland.

A satellite in orbit sends huge bolts of energy earthwards.

A parade of enslaved young, fit and beautiful people are paraded in front of a room full of old and decrepit super-rich body-thieves. They intend to have their minds implanted into these blameless victims.

In the ruins of an underground subway, OMAC is jumped by a gang of hideous monsters.
