We keep hearing how a wealth tax will make the ultra rich piss off overseas, and allegedly take jobs with them. Don't hear so much about the Govt's axing of pay equity and other policies has resulted in teachers and other essential workers leaving, taking their skills and labour with them. #nzpol

Yeah. Almost 100k have exited NZ. Permanently. In the last three years and we've lost the equivalent of 75k full time jobs. No wonder the economy is in the toilet.

My wallet has been hit harder than any landlord or supermarket owner I'll bet. In every sector of my world this clown show has really made life more difficult. I can't fathom how some families must just be clinging on for dear life. We're all human. This is not government. It's enmity. #nzpol

#nzpol What's in it for workers this election? Over the coming week, we'll be releasing a set of 13 policy scorecards for working people, so that you know where parties stand this election year. See how the parties stack up on Fair Pay Agreements, contractor law, and personal grievances:
NZCTU Policy Scorecards for Working People. Question: “Will you support higher wages by restoring Fair Pay Agreements in the first 100 days?” Results: Labour - Yes; National - No; ACT - No; Green - Yes; Te Pāti Māori - Yes; New Zealand First - No; Alliance - Yes; Opportunities Party - No. Green tick indicates Yes, red cross indicates No. Footer notes that National and ACT declined to answer questions on industrial policy, so scores reflect public statements and legislative history. Authorised by New Zealand Council of Trade Unions - Te Kauae Kaimahi. More information: union.org.nz/election-scorecards-26.NZCTU policy scorecard titled “Policy Scorecards for Working People.” Question: “Will you protect workers by ending the mislabelling of employees as contractors?*” with a note: “*by reversing the Employment Relations Amendment Act 2026 changes.” Results: Labour: Yes; National: No; ACT: No; Green: Yes; New Zealand First: No; Alliance: Yes; Opportunity Party (TOP): No policy. Impossible to invent something as absurd as the Minister for Cracking Down On Truancy And School Lunches not knowing it is the school holidays www.rnz.co.nz/news/politic...

'Why are you not in school?' It’s school holidays

David Seymour stopped to speak to some children at Velocity Valley in Rotorua, giving them a piece of advice.

“Don’t trust politicians,” he said. “Are you a politician?,” they questioned.

After the three children asked if he was going to be on the news and waved at the cameras, he said: “hey, one question, how come you guys aren’t at school?”

It’s school holidays, they said.

Seymour said they could still go into school, but the kids didn’t seemed thrilled by that idea.

“No, it’s ok,” they said before walking away.

Good work from Stuff reporting both of these phenomena. Step 2 is for them or anyone else in the gallery to make the point - that seems obvious but needs to be said explicitly - is that these are not unrelated. One side of politics is cultivating virulent bigotry & the other is targeted by it.
DPS steps in as Chris Hipkins confronted by man on the campaign trail
Labour leader Chris Hipkins has been confronted by a man ahead of his media stand up in Mt Albert.

A Dignitary Protection Service [DPS] officer, who is part of a specialised branch of the NZ Police responsible for providing personal security to key national figures, could be seen with his arm outstretched as the man approached the group. It appears the man was given a push by the DPS officer.

Hipkins said he didn’t hear what the person said to him.

“Every now and then you get someone who disagrees with you. I didn’t actually hear what he said.”

An unidentified person could be heard saying, "he's a conspiracy theorist".On the road with ACT: The party's supporters want to talk about race
ACT MPs rolled into Tauranga in their big pink bus - Big Pinky - yesterday to talk about the many ways of ‘Unlocking New Zealand’s Potential’. Their supporters mostly wanted to talk about one thing - race.

Stuff's Isaac Davison was on the road and filed this report.

ACT believes three main things are holding the country back: large, unresponsive government; red tape; and “obsession with identity”.

It was the third thing that was the hot topic in Tauranga.

Seymour was approached by a young mother who had been eagerly waiting for a conversation. She wanted to praise him for being the only politician to promote “equal rights” in New Zealand.

Another who turned out from Mt Maunganui said, “Māori issues are a disgrace”.
