Happy Independence Day to Nigeria at 66. #NigeriaAt66 Though I am not sure about the independence or the happiness... or even the Nigerianess. Even the 66 is suspect. Alright... Day.

biblically accurate cluster latency graph
a screenshot showing a directed latency/connectivity graph for nodes in a kubernetes cluster, generated by goldpinger. each node is identified by a circle and there are edges connecting all nodes to each other, labelled with the latency in ms

I love every single person who has ever put up a "how to fix this thing you own" video on youtube. You have saved us with car repairs, saved us from buying a new phone and now from buying a new tv. Generousity and kindness can be found, galore.

usage/time, but a new isolate may be spun up to handle requests even if one already exists (reconnecting to TS also adds latency). Once the isolate is up and running though, it totally works and it's really cool that you can do all this through WASM. Definitely workable depending on use case.

vrtx @vrtx.sh · 15/09/2026
verdict for now: unfortunately can't use this for the proxy use case I had because of how much the latency can vary at startup (WASM load+connection). Can pin an isolate for some time after a request to avoid the WASM load, and you can also shut down the tailscale connection to reduce CPU

Part of the latency is also from loading the WASM blob (currently embedding it in the script, brotli compressed, takes about 100-200ms to load), and a fresh ephemeral auth to the tailnet every time an isolate boots. I'm still playing around with it to see if I can get it to be faster.

It's on @bunny.net's Deno-based edge runtime. Right now everything is through DERP, it doesn't seem to be able to establish a direct connection.

vrtx @vrtx.sh · 08/09/2026
Can you run Tailscale in an edge worker, using WASM, to proxy requests to your tailnet? Why yes, yes you can!* (If you _hate_ having good TTFB, and love racking up CPU time costs)

Meme poster on a slate-blue background. An anatomically detailed human skeleton strides energetically to the left. Large white headline across the top: "JUST BUILD IT." A white script line beside it: "you can just do things!!!" Down the left side, a white list: single page site, api, script, crazy idea, self-serving site, cli nobody asked for, chrome extension, dumb little bot, spite fork, the thing you keep describing. Bold white line across the bottom: "IF IT SUCKS…BUILD YOUR OWN!!" and beneath it, in script: "real builders ship."

fun fact: traefik initializes an instance of every middleware for each router its connected to. this has fun and exciting implications for your plugin's resource usage, say, if it starts three watches on your k8s api server on startup.

thankfully, you can use per-node configs to roll out the changes to existing nodes, not just new nodes. cordon, drain, delete cilium pod (nuke daemonsets after cilium), wait for everything to go green, uncordon, repeat with next node, ... , profit!
partial output from running "cilium status" showing:
- bandwidth manager with the bbr algorithm enabled
- bpf masquerading and host routing enabled
- netkit device mode with tcx bpf attach mode
