a few years ago, references to Simon of Trent or Leo Frank trutherism were a sign that someone was an intensely Christian and/or Neo-Nazi right-wing antisemite but now formerly-normal lefty politics influencers who stayed on Twitter casually reply to Mamdani with 15th century blood libel posts

This is half-baked but I feel like there is a sort of ambient belief out there that holding the richest people in the world accountable for horrifying crimes is sort of unthinkable, meaning impossible to actually achieve. Do not like.

At an event held by the MAHA Institute, RFK Jr said he wanted the federal government to feed Americans' private health data to AI to find evidence to support his anti-science ideology. He also said AI can make “better-informed” decisions than doctors, despite AI’s reputation for hallucinations.

Good research is difficult and time-consuming because it is done to *challenge* our assumptions. Synthetic users' only purpose is to allow those assumptions to remain unchallenged. They are not "research but faster." They are "going with your gut, but with extra steps to cover your ass."

This is also the case when social and political scientists use synthetic data purporting to stand in for real humans and real human social relations and behaviors; and the task they are also looking for an excuse not to do is research.

Yet more evidence for the towering heap of proof that synthetic users are bullshit. As with all AI products, they do not improve "productivity" for a task but create an excuse not to do the task. In this case, the task is research. AI participants do not help you do research, but to AVOID research.

Anyway, a crucial driver of technofascism is the networks of capital that recruit and enculturate young tech workers into going along with producing society-wide sociotechnical harms through the uncritical production of surveillance and AI technologies.

There's been a decent amount of social research on organizations like Y Combinator and other VC and tech accelerators intentionally encouraging and hiring from college dropouts towards this end. Durán's The Nerd Reich covers this for example (not the only one, just what I last happened to read).

It's like Sam Bankman-Fried said about why they only hired under-30s at FTX and Alemeda Research: they had at first tried hiring a few adults but the adults kept telling them why they weren't allowed to do certain things, which only got in the way of their criminal enterprise.

They recruit young people, and especially encourage them to drop out of college, because those ones tend to have more coding ability than they do moral judgement or curiosity about the social harms their work is being assembled in to.

And for what it's worth, I think the issue is that people are using bots for targeted gang-stalking (swarm-stalking). They pick targets and automate harassment against them. I'm pretty sure my contact info, not just on bluesky but across the web and my personal addresses, is on someone's attack list

It's so transparent that Fortune and other tech press are still doing the brilliant young college dropout shtick after all these years. This guy was recruited to and funded by OpenAI execs at one of the OpenAI spinoff companies, and which is the inception point of his AI assistant startup.

The fact that there are people calling themselves a pro-data center party, but who in actuality operate by throwing entertainment events at local entertainment venues is very reminiscent of the cryptocurrency and NFT party scene, which tried to merge hip party gatherings with political activism.

The latter is, to be clear, a deeply reactionary stance that promotes ignorance and the violation of the freedom to read — even when the information sources themselves are deeply embroiled in and beneficiaries of the political economy of supremacism.

There is a meaningful difference between boycotting an information source or digital platform as an act of digital resistance (e.g. not promoting substack articles or not subscribing to the NYT), and telling people that they aren't allowed to read or discuss those things as information resources.

This is what they want. To eliminate most of us so that we aren’t a threat to them in a world decimated by climate change. They are very explicit that this is their actual political goal and that they see AI (“superintelligence”) as the leading mechanism to make that happen.

One of the things that is going to change is that we’re never ever again going to be able to be dominated by public officials who tell us, ‘Trust the experts,’” Mr. Kennedy said during the Tuesday session.

“If somebody tells you, ‘Masks work, trust the experts,’ A.I. may tell you otherwise,” he added. “If somebody tells you, ‘Social distancing works, trust the experts,’ A.I. may correct that. And if somebody tells you that a vaccine will prevent transmission and infection, or you need to take it to protect your grandmother, A.I. may say it actually doesn’t do that.”
