Darauf folgte m. W. eine Dienstaufsichtsbeschwerde wegen "Missachtung" des Stadtrats. Seit vorgestern flattern Bänder in beiden Farben an der Brücke. Festzuhalten ist, dass die fckafd bewusst gegen die sorbischen Farben stimmte. In #Budyšin gilt aber weiterhin: Keine deutsche Fahne ohne sorbische.

Auf das hier. Vor der Formulierung der Staatsraison durch Angela Merkel musste man sich dazu nicht verhalten. Da war es Doxa nichts dazu sagen zu müssen. Jetzt ist das anders. Jetzt muss man. Und zu versuchen, sich nicht dazu zu verhalten, bedeutet jetzt etwas ganz anderes als vor Merkels Rede.

Was bei Elif Eralp auch greift sind nicht nur die unterschiedlichen Maßstäbe an rechts/links, sondern auch das Mann/Frau Thema. Was Männer "früher" gemacht haben, sind immer "Jugendsünden", "junge Männer eben" usw, das können die krassesten Sachen sein und die Dudes schon in hohen Ämtern gewesen.

Falsch ist es auch. Aber intellektuell unehrlich ist es, so zu tun, als könne man die Staatsraison ablehnen, ohne dadurch antisemitisch zu handeln. Das werden dir die unbedarfteren Teile des Publikums und die mit psychologischem Bedürfnis gerne abkaufen, aber das macht intellektuell nicht integerer

The same way one isn’t Graf Hans von Klee anymore but Hans Graf von Klee instead. Calling someone „Graf Hans“ or „Graf Klee“ or „v. Klee“ is illegal too. But for example the German social security system is formed after Prussian military administration and calls me „Nicolai Neudeck, von“

Leaving a von or a Graf away completely if you’re not the person themselves and if they haven‘t introduced themselves to you as „Herr Klee“ is legally a violation of a human right (yes there was a decision by the European court of human rights, yes, someone sued. I personally think that was petty)

So for you Adrian, I think you can go with „Franz von Papen“ and then continue with „Papen“. None of us think you are a secret fan of an aristocratic order. Going with „von Papen“ the whole time would be playing it safe. What you should avoid is „Franz v. Papen“ or „v. Papen“, those are shibboleths

Calling someone once Herr von Papen and afterwards Papen I think is okayish if one can tell that you are definitely a republican and if there is not the slightest doubt that you are a liberal/leftist. Technically and legally correct is „von Papen“ each time and every conservative should use that

As you probably guessed it still depends on who does it and in which context. My personal opinion is that putting the Graf/Freiherr/Prinz in front of a given name is antirepublican and one should avoid doing that. Always. No exceptions.

If I today in 2026 say „Guten Tag, mein Name ist Neudeck“ people who later learn that my actual name is longer will not understand this as me trying to imply that nobility is still legally real but that I share the value of the republic being a good thing. But in 1925 that would have been different

Now this rule has not been followed strictly by fans of nobility but in theory it is still in place. Also today many people with „long family names“ leave everything aside in everyday life and make phone calls using „Guten Tag, Klee“ not to imply that nobility is real but out of republican values

Now the former nobility indicating parts are not such anymore but just fixed parts of the family name. E.g. Nicolai von Neudeck. Now shortening that to Nicolai Neudeck or just Neudeck would express that I still believe it to be a nobility thing that I can leave aside as I please. Hence it’s illegal

exempt from that are all titles that indicate that you are a ruler of a state (Fürst, König, Kaiser), so those people must pick among their other lesser titles (Most went with Prinz). Most nobles just picked their highest title and dropped everything else, but some insisted on long silly names

So the Adelsaufhebungsgesetze end the state sanctioned privileges of nobility (and there were many) but regarding names a very clunky formulaic compromise is found: As such titles, honourifics, Adelsprädikate and such lose all meaning. They are no longer descriptions of who you are.
