#Ukraine Russia hit Zaporizhzhia with five glide bombs this morning. At least 15 dead, three of them children, more still under the rubble. This came hours after Trump announced a deal to import Russian diesel. Putin reads every easing of pressure as permission to keep killing.

I would argue that the fact that there aren’t daily terrorist attacks is pretty good evidence people not only understand there are serious consequences “for these types of things” but also that most people are pretty good most of the time.

#Russia is now openly threatening Armenia with the "Ukrainian scenario" if Yerevan continues its turn towards Europe. Medvedev is saying the quiet part out loud: Moscow sees a sovereign neighbour choosing its own path as a threat - and is warning what happens when you do.

Trump's panicking about the widespread revulsion against his Arch, and is trying to cloak it in national security to jam it through or go around the normal approval process. It's even more important to stop it now, as a test case of not letting him use "national security" to justify illegal acts.

Combatants are hunting civilians from the sky with small drones more than ever before - and the international community isn’t doing enough to stop it. My latest on the ways we can protect civilians from drones, written with Nathaniel Raymond of @hrl-yalesph.bsky.social :

Yes! « Trump’s attitude toward Canada is almost indistinguishable from the way [..] Putin sees Ukraine: not as a state but as some kind of historical anomaly that should be returned to its rightful owners. » Im working w some colleagues on an article that systematically assesses the similarities.

The US official overseeing Donald Trump’s contentious White House ballroom extension held talks with Kremlin officials in Russia this summer as part of a quiet diplomatic mission, according to people familiar with the matter.

Rodney Mims Cook Jr, chair of the US Commission of Fine Arts, was given a diplomatic passport and extensive briefings before attending Vladimir Putin’s flagship economic forum in St Petersburg in June, where he met Kremlin officials and was assigned a diplomatic security detail, the people said.

An enthusiast for Russian culture, Cook presented his trip as a “cultural visit” where he showed photographs of his “dacha” in Atlanta.

US secretary of state Marco Rubio said in June that he was “not aware” of the delegation to St Petersburg.

North Korea threatens U.S. allies, supplied Iran with weapons and technology for years, sends soldiers and weapons to Russia to help them invade Ukraine, and oppresses its people and routinely deprives them of even the basic necessities of life. North Korea is not our friend.
TruthSocial Post from Donald Trump: “Based on my very good relationship with Kim Jong Un, of North Korea, I am not happy with the fact that the United States has, long ago, agreed to participate in Joint Military Exercises with South Korea. These exercises are not only costly, with much of these costs paid for by the United States of America (as usual!), but send a signal that is totally inappropriate and hostile, to a Country that, as long as Donald J. Trump has been President, has been unthreatening and respectful … While somewhat unrelated (?), I recently asked the President of South Korea if they would like to join us in the Denuclearization of the Islamic Republic of Iran, and they said, ‘No thanks!’””
