I see, thanks for the answers! I recently been doing some learning projects in godot, and did some simple setup via a course online, but it wasn't particularly great, and your article helped to clear some things which I didn't immediately "get" back then, so saved it for later reference, thanks!

And to be clear, I am speaking mostly of what I was doing it when playing games with friends, and often the difference between playing a pirated vs bought on steam version of the game (even the same game), was that steam didn't require anything "extra", so curious, what's happening under the hood
110
Reptilian VladeoZ @vladeoz.reptilian.games · 16h
And, someone mentioned this already, but the steam stuff is interesting too, since I think it provides some sort of relay/vlan option of its own? As in, you can use it to connect for "p2p" games where otherwise you would have to rely on port forwarding/other options, I can just "invite a friend"

Reptilian VladeoZ @vladeoz.reptilian.games · 16h
A bit curious, under what category would VLAN connections for multiplayer would go? I remember years ago using something like hamachi and zerotier to basically put myself and my friends into the same vlan, and then using that IP to connect to whoever is running the host game

that one specifically very well could be as simple as "many of the devs are ex-CDPR so they personally still support GOGs mission"
020
Reptilian VladeoZ @vladeoz.reptilian.games · 02/10/2026
makes me think of that recent-ish robocop game, where they specifically tried to nail the fantasy of a "walking tank"

Reptilian VladeoZ @vladeoz.reptilian.games · 30/09/2026
So you kinda just end up being "punished" for not wanting to explore the map more.
010
Reptilian VladeoZ @vladeoz.reptilian.games · 30/09/2026
But, for example for gravity shift (which is even more essential, as I don't think you can complete the game without that one at all), you do have explicit marker on the map even, where it just says that you don't have the required ability to go there yet. Why not do the same for the hook thing?
111
Reptilian VladeoZ @vladeoz.reptilian.games · 30/09/2026
And one extra thing of note imo is how it's not even hinted "properly" that it's a thing that exist. Sure, there are those weird orbs around ledges, which might make you think "oh, maybe it's for grabbing to them" (although from people I watched play the game, I didn't see many put that together).
110
Reptilian VladeoZ @vladeoz.reptilian.games · 30/09/2026
But it's just so weird, right? Surely it would open a lot more "space" for designing more cool encounters/levels (not that they weren't already insane already) if you didn't have to account for players who might not have it at that point in the game.
110
Reptilian VladeoZ @vladeoz.reptilian.games · 30/09/2026
I'd call it "explore, or else" approach tbh Like, they clearly put a lot of thought into actually designing everything up until the very end of the game to be "traversable", without the gravity hook thing, and I legit think you *can* complete the whole game without ever getting it.

Met this dude at a metal fest, was a bit awkward, but really chill otherwise. Although he kept saying "I must kill all the Hiss", idk what that was about
Dylan Faden from Control Resonant, wearing black jeans, black tee with white graffiti print on it, maroon red long coat and old school flight goggles. He also rocks and impeccable green mullet and a horrible mustache. He can't pose for photos so he kinda just awkwardly stands there.

Another thing on new Control - there are couple of sequences which seemed to me like Remedy WISHED they could just have 2nd go at Quantum Break (in a good way), and I'll keep it at that, you'll know it when you'll see it

Playing a lot of Control Resonant, and holy shit the game's insane. Remedy legit knocked it out of the park with this one, play it!

I was wondering why it gave me the "ick", and this might explain it really well. Dolls like that also kinda give me the creeps (not like, anything big, but just enough to make me feel uneasy), so them doing this style might be why I don't particularly vibe with this.

I guess somewhat telling what kind of games can afford to appear on shows like this (tho there are a couple I am still excited about)

Now, attempting to understand myself, I just felt incredibly hollow, so doing more things and reading/watching/playing what I felt like I wasn't "interested in" before helps. It still feels like a long road ahead, but I do hope that one day I'll be able to create art other people will resonate with

The "importance of good nutrition" bit hit close to me, as several years back I just kinda "existed" through life it feels like, and that includes the kinds of art I consumed - usually whatever was kinda popular, but not "ugh, it's popular so I hate it", not to mention all the social media. (cont.)
Screenshot with an excerpt from the article in the quoted post:
"This is a choice you are making! You might be sitting around going “I’m miserable,” and you can tell yourself it’s the state of politics these days or because you’re struggling to find work, but let me tell you: it’s also because there’s no variety in your life.

If you’re stuck on your specific area of choice because you know it gives you joy, understand that you’re deadening your love for it by focusing solely on it. You need some you time — time away from the thing you’re consuming to give you joy. You need more than just your brand, so to speak.

Consume more good shit, don’t be a consumer Buying One Kind of Product."

If I'm not misremembering, Doom Eternal did that? It was putting you in a "simulation room" with enemies for tutorials when it was teaching you, and I *think* you can go through them again at any time. But at the same time, iirc there were some complaints back then at the game being overtutorialized

Reptilian VladeoZ @vladeoz.reptilian.games · 14/08/2026
Which also meant that down the line I would also need to account for those changes, both implementing stuff from the course and changing it to fit what changes I did myself prior
010
Reptilian VladeoZ @vladeoz.reptilian.games · 14/08/2026
One extra thing that was kinda helping for me (tho I doubt it's intentional) is that in one particular set of courses I was following, some of the code was sometimes done in a "hacky" way, so on top of writing it out, I thought out writing it in a bit of a different way, that felt clearer for me
110
Reptilian VladeoZ @vladeoz.reptilian.games · 13/08/2026
Idk if it exactly applies, but Far Cry 5. It's not the most "out there" game by any stretch of the imagination, I am just kinda surprised people I talked with generaly liked it better than FC6, and I never quite got "why" (although obviously whole series took quite a dip after 3-4).

So then I can just easily search any particular tag and see everything that I had tagged with it And so far, it's been quite fast to do so, although it did require some initial setup (like adjusting where the attachments are saved and also getting couple community plugins to handle images and stuff)
Screenshot from Obsidian "Search" tab, showing an example of searching of all files tagged with "Audio".Screenshot of installed community plugins in Obsidian:
Image Toolkit - enables inspecting and manipulating images.
Paste image rename - renames images on pasting them into the file, for better organization.
Tag Wrangler - extra tag control for renaming tags across all vault.
Vault Full Statistics - just extra statistics to keep track of amount and size of files.
Zoottelkeeper Plugin - tbh can be skipped, was just checking what there is that can make automatically a per-folder "index file", but didn't really have a use for it.

Reptilian VladeoZ @vladeoz.reptilian.games · 08/08/2026
admittedly quite scuff, and there are probably much better solutions for that, but what ended up working for me is to have a "reference vault" in Obsidian, where I put the references I find, and write tags to each of them (it's not just art I also put things like tutorials, articles etc in there)
Screenshot of full Obsidian window for my "Reference Vault". On the left there is a list of all individual files within it, in the middle window an example of a file opened, showing the tags, the image and some text description, on the right a panel opened with all the tags in the vault for quick searching it.

But with Godot right now, honestly I think it's the first time I actually get enjoyment of writing code, solving the problems and digging into all that. Hopefully I will have something to show for it some time in the future, once I get some of the right screws in my head tightened up

In my own hobby time, and Uni, trying to go through creating something in C++, Java, C#, Python, it just never really "stuck" with me, and always just felt frustrating. For a while, for previous work, I did a bunch of UE BPs stuff, which was, as you can assume, much easier to wrap the head around

Been learning the ropes with some Godot stuff from a course I bought couple years ago but didn't touch until recently, and man, GDScript is honestly such a breath of fresh air to use. Like, idk if it's me just "getting experienced" or whatever, but in the past I just felt like I didn't *get* coding

It's a very overcorrectionist approach essentially, due to both history between ua and ru (going as far back as russian empire), and the ongoing war. A sort of "you wouldn't buy a german book from germany during WW2" view, if you will, regardless of who the author supports.
1160
Reptilian VladeoZ @vladeoz.reptilian.games · 10/07/2026
And that *also* includes the works from dead authors. One of the UA YT news channels I follow occasionally does "deep dives" into classic russian literature, from perspective "what garbage people the authors were" through what and how they wrote, and that people should "stop mysticising it", bluntly
1150
Reptilian VladeoZ @vladeoz.reptilian.games · 10/07/2026
As Ukrainian - shit's weird, man. Part of it is "don't support russians monetarily", sure, but there's also just a legitimate push against "anything" russian, even if the authors don't live there and weren't living there for years. The biggest reason for that is "to stop spread of russian culture".

The ballooning of the IT industry overall basically just attracted a ton of people who have no interest in creating anything and see it just as means to an end, and we've been suffering the consequences of it since. Glad you and people like you are still here tho, makes me wanna create stuff, too!

I remember trying it out a while ago and being disappointed with all the genAI stuff, they did "listen to feedback" and say they they were replacing all of that iirc, just hard for me to give it a pass when, y'know, scrutinizing other devs when they said they use genAI in "concept stages"
