I just had a parent pull a 5-year-old out of our youth soccer league because he's "on a team with all girls" (there are 2 other boys) and his jersey color is pink, and "that's unfair and he's an emotional mess." Parents, you simply have to be better lol what an insane thing to do.

Personally I think that a great starting point for discussions on 'what do we do about SEND in education?' is to go back to the Salamanca Statement and remember what 'inclusion' originally meant. The way that the system itself works has become the cause of exclusion for many CYP imho.
2.We believe and proclaim that:
• every child has a fundamental right to education, and must be given the opportunity to achieve
and maintain an acceptable level of learning,
• every child has unique characteristics, interests, abilities and learning needs,
• education systems should be designed and educational programmes implemented to take into
account the wide diversity of these characteristics and needs,
• those with special educational needs must have access to regular schools which should
accommodate them within a child-centred pedagogy capable of meeting these needs,
• regular schools with this inclusive orientation are the most effective means of combating
discriminatory attitudes, creating welcoming communities, building an inclusive society and
achieving education for all; more over, they provide an effective education to the majority of
children and improve the efficiency and ultimately the cost-effectiveness of the entire education
system.

🗣️ "Improved recruitment to postgraduate teacher training in England is welcome after years of severe under-recruitment." Our Education Workforce Lead, @jackworth.bsky.social, has given his reaction to the latest DfE initial teacher training census data. 👇
"Improved recruitment to postgraduate teacher training in England is welcome after years of severe under-recruitment. While targets for core secondary subjects including English, maths and the sciences have been met, overall secondary recruitment still falls short of the numbers required.

“Further policy efforts to improve teacher recruitment and retention will be needed to maintain the stronger recruitment, reverse the impacts of previous persistent under-recruitment and deliver on the Government's objective to recruit 6,500 new teachers."

Disability is not separate from humanity. It's a natural part of the human experience. Often times, disabilities can be a part of natural genetic variation. Celebrating our unique experiences makes us stronger, prepares us for a world full of differences, and promotes community and understanding.
