This is wild: only *one quarter* of the New Yorkers who live in the city today were there on 9/11. It's basically an entirely new city. Cities are magic: constantly changing, churning engines of human progress. This is why conservatives hate them.

it's a very old rule of moderated digital spaces that you need an "i know it when i see it" clause for harassment or else bad actors will aggressively toe the line without ever technically going over. that's why i don't think the "why cant you give me an exact definition" replies will go anywhere

A hit song on the Billboard 100 charts is termed *$k$-good* if it is _ever_ in a weekly top-$k$, and *$k$-immediate* if it _debuts_ in the top-$k$.

An artist is *$(n,k)$-Olivian* if their $n$ first $k$-good hits are all also $k$-immediate.

*Headline 1.* Olivia Rodrigo is the first $(10,10)$-Olivian woman.

bro you gotta try this new boutique pizza place they have this innovative new slice instead of normal pepperoni it's the kind that curl up and get all charred and then they drizzle hot honey on it and you're not gonna believe this it's served with a dollop of ricotta

for a while now i've bene thinking that even if the tech keeps getting better, none of this industry looks sustainable if power users decide they're at a "good enough" point running a local model on their mac studio
David DeSanto, CEO of software company
Anaconda, recently returned from a five-week trip around the world speaking to customers. He said that many were moving to self-host Al models — deploying their own within Amazon Bedrock or Google's Vertex Al to have more control over the supply chain — or changing to open-source or open-weight models for a lot of their needs, since many such models have significantly improved on benchmarks as of late. Some companies also worry about the security of sending IP to a commercial frontier lab, so they only use ChatGPT or Claude models for "mission-critical applications," he said.
"Everyone I spoke to had some version of this problem - their token usage has gone up, so their usage-based billing cost has gone up, or the tier they were on no longer has the same cap, and now they're having to go to a more expensive tier to try to keep the same amount of usage per month as part of their flat rate, " DeSanto said.
