What's not illuminated right now is what exactly are you trying to debunk or say that's relevant to the discussion?

Jernej Virag @virag.si · 03/10/2026

I believe there's now a "let's denazify Germany and get rid of Nazis" focus which goes in some funny directions afterwards.

That's an interesting viewpoint when I see way more of "we humanities people are the only ones qualified to do policy and rule over you, go back to building widgets for us dumb engineers" mindset. Why are y'all putting so much effort into putting other people down?

I found that controller worked better for AC7 than my FlightSim/DCS HOTAS anyway, the hardware was suffering too much with all the quick movements AC demands :)

Most of these larger apps end up with some kind of multiplatform backend + native frontend anyway. As you say - no point in fixing same bug and refactoring same business/API logic twice.

What IS the usual length of deployment for such a ship to avoid this kind of degradation? I now realised I don't know - I expected them to be able to stay out for a year.

100

Jernej Virag @virag.si · 01/09/2026

Well, maybe 2 is fine, but for library you either ship it in prod with your app (which means it shouldn't be alpha) or it's too unstable to ship. Semver for the rest.

Jernej Virag @virag.si · 21/08/2026

I mean, sure they also make 0$ with used games sold - and now they'll extract more from people who'll won't be able to afford buying used anymore. Are those "noone" you're mentioning? All the libraries and used school sales, rentals and shared games which didn't generate revenue for Sony?

140

Jernej Virag @virag.si · 21/08/2026

I'm always wondering when I see posts like yours: you chose to defend a mega corporation over still millions of people buying those discs because they "only" make a 24.000.000$ with them. That's something I'd expect from a republican. Why side with the corpo, not people being worse off?

... while the outcomes still aren't better by default ... then maybe, just maybe the whole thing is not a net benefit and needs improvement. So: the purpose of AI is what it does, not what you want it to do. And it ain't very good at this point.

010

Jernej Virag @virag.si · 18/08/2026

It really isn't. It's a sober reminder for any engineer that _outcomes_ matter, not good wishes or how much you're having fun while making something for others. That goes for any technology, API or process you built. And if you need to keep repeating "you're just holding it wrong" ....

Mastodon post from Jake Wharton:

As of today, the Lysine projects (OkHttp, Okio, Retrofit, and the SQL Delight family) have a contribution policy that forbids LLM usage for creating code and for PR/issue descriptions and comments.
There is an exception for translation assistance provided you disclose its use.
If you choose to use LLMs locally for research, analysis, and/or experimentation we can't stop you. But for contributing we require you to write the code, and for our interactions to be with you.

Moderne slušalke te zvoke ojačajo in prepustijo in z njimi slišiš več.

Jernej Virag @virag.si · 05/08/2026

I bet they'd be way more impressive than the lazy trick the writers envisioned and much more fun for VFX crews to film as well. History is smarter, funnier and more dramatic than most writers and when we see it depicted faithfully we get something very epic.

030

100
