Air pollution doesn’t stop in the lungs. A BBC experiment shows traffic fumes enter the bloodstream within minutes. Pollution-driven inflammation is linked to #lungcancer risk overall - including in people who’ve never smoked. Clean air matters. #LCSM 🔗 www.bbc.co.uk/news/article...

The new National Cancer Plan sets out an ambition for 3 in 4 people with cancer to survive by 2035. For #lungcancer, this depends on earlier diagnosis, timely biopsies, and biomarker results before treatment starts. Getting the basics right matters. #LCSM

#Lungcancer outcomes will only change when pathways do. Yesterday the National Cancer Plan set out ambition, but for lung cancer that will only count if diagnosis, biopsy and biomarker testing happen quickly and in the right order. Outcomes improve when pathways work early and properly. #LCSM

New study suggests that metastatic cancer cells may evade the immune system by stealing mitochondria from immune cells and setting up a ‘shield’ that protects them from being killed by immune cells. Wiley little bastards. #Science 🧪

Cancer might evade immune defences by stealing mitochondria
Hijacking the energy-producing organelles from immune cells seems to help tumours in mice to infiltrate lymph nodes.

#LungCancer survival stats online are often years out of date. More people with stage 4 are now living longer, some having surgery after a good response and a few reaching NED. Outcomes are shifting in a better direction. 💙 #LCSM Source: SEER data reflects outcomes from years earlier.

#Lungcancer is often found late. Spotting it early can make a big difference. Be alert to symptoms that don’t go away: cough, breathlessness, fatigue, chest/shoulder/back pain, hoarseness, unexplained weight loss. Staging shows how far the cancer has spread & helps doctors plan treatment. #LCSM

#Lungcancer is still the UK’s leading cause of cancer death - yet awareness of the symptoms remains too low. The signs aren’t always what you’d expect or even respiratory. Listen to your body. Take changes seriously. If something feels off don’t assume it’s nothing - get it checked. #LCSM
