Could alectinib be used before surgery for ALK+ #lungcancer? In the phase 2 NAUTIKA1 study, 55.8% had a major pathological response after 8 weeks of alectinib before surgery. It’s early research, but an interesting new direction for ALK+ treatment. #WCLC26 #ALKPositive #LCSM

Scotland has confirmed routine NHS access to lorlatinib after previous ALK+ lung cancer treatment. It had been available on an interim basis since 2020. Following reassessment and further evidence, that access is now routine. #ALKPositive #LungCancer #LCSM

It’s #WorldRadiotherapyAwarenessDay. Radiotherapy can also play an important role in ALK+ #lungcancer. It may be used to treat cancer in the brain or other parts of the body, control one or a small number of areas that have started growing, or relieve symptoms. #LCSM

New research is helping us understand why ALK targeted treatments can stop working. In 148 people with ALK+ #lungcancer, researchers identified changes in the RAS pathway as one possible route of resistance. An important clue for future research. #ALKPositive #LungCancer #LCSM

🆕 study has found children’s lungs grew bigger & worked better after ULEZ. Outdoor air pollution & particulate matter are classified by IARC as carcinogenic with sufficient evidence that they cause #lungcancer. So this is a significant real-world example of what cleaner air can mean for lungs.

A 🆕 study published in JTO (Kamali et al., 2026) found that > 1/3 people living with ALK+ #lungcancer develop blood clots during their illness, often well into treatment, not just at diagnosis. Blood clots are treatable when caught early. Don’t wait for symptoms to start the conversation. #LCSM

19 yrs ago today, a Japanese research team led by Dr Hiroyuki Mano published the 1st paper describing the ALK rearrangement in #lungcancer. That discovery changed the future of ALK+, paving the way for targeted treatments that have transformed care & helped many people live longer & better. #LCSM

8 yrs ago we had our 1st meet-up which was the start of ALK+ #LungCancer UK’s journey! 💙 In 2018, with no ALK+ UK support groups, Debra, our Chair, reached out to fellow UK patients on a US forum. There were 18 at the meet-up & we were incredibly fortunate to have Prof Sanjay Popat join us. #LCSM

Leptomeningeal disease is an uncommon but serious problem in ALK+ #lungcancer. At #ASCO26, the largest study found people given lorlatinib after diagnosis lived far longer than those on a 2nd-gen TKI like alectinib or brigatinib (32.6 vs 7 months). Retrospective, no UK data. shorturl.at/nVw1V #LCSM

This week is Carers Week (8-14 June). 1 in 4 #lungcancer carers in the UK rarely or never talk about how they’re feeling. That’s one of the findings from a Lung Cancer Europe survey that our community took part in. Supporting someone you love through a lung cancer diagnosis is hard. #LCSM

Great news. 10K+ #lungcancer cases now detected by NHS mobile scanning units in England - 75% at stage 1 or 2, when survival rates are nearly 13X higher. This programme targets those with smoking history aged 55-74. In our ALK+ UK community, 73% never smoked and 1/2 are < 50 at diagnosis. #LCSM

At 7 years, 44% of people with ALK+ #lungcancer on lorlatinib in the CROWN trial are still on treatment. This remarkable data will be presented at ASCO 2026 in Chicago next week. After 7 years of follow-up, the median progression-free survival with lorlatinib has still not been reached. #LCSM
