The modern tech cult is suffused with theology (the ‘Singularity’ is a ‘Rapture’ of ascension into the heavenly ‘Cloud’, for example). Even the doomerism is millenarian - a purifying Day of Judgement. There is very little that is scientifically rational, despite the surface appearance as such.

I feel the yearning for AI to be conscious comes from the same wishful thinking that invented “souls” and “heaven”. Ironically a good example of what I’m talking about. Humans are afraid to die (feeling) so our intellect invents a way to soothe that fear by pretending there is life after death.

Just speaking for film & TV there isn't really a job loss due to AI. It's been mostly due to successive punches of pandemic, streaming collapse, union strikes, studio consolidation and interest rates. This trend was in place way before Midjourney was pumping out pictures with 14 fingers.
