Less food safety? Congress is considering eroding FDA’s already weak oversight of the chemicals in our food and blocking states from developing their own stronger safeguards. We joined partners and elected officials to urge Congress to reject the misnamed FRESH and Affordable Foods Act.
A person holding a sign reading "Keep Toxics Off The Table" stands in front of the United States Capitol building. A message in the image reads, "Less food safety? No, thank you."Environmental Defense Fund's Maria Doa stands at a podium, address the Toxics Off the Table rally. Text reads "The average American is exposed to hundreds of chemicals in their food every day."Attendees of the Toxics Off the Table rally hold signs against the FRESH Act, urging Congress not to abandon state-level progress toward food safety. Text reads "Repeated exposure to multiple harmful chemicals adds up over time, worsening our health outcomes."Sen. Ed Markey, D-Massachusetts, stands at a podium addressing the Toxics Off the Table rally. Text reads "Certain chemicals in our food are linked to serious health problems, like cancer and developmental harm to children. Let's keep toxics off the table."

Who really pays for the Trump administration's reckless rollbacks of pollution standards? We do—with our health, our wallets and our lives.

In case it wasn't clear enough: Trump's EPA places zero value on human life.
A power plant emits pollution in a desert landscape. Overlaid are two news article excerpts: one from CBS News titled "The U.S. just had its hottest summer on record, NOAA says" and another from The New York Times about the EPA's expected erasure of limits on climate pollution from power plants. The text at the bottom reads, "Trump’s response to the country’s hottest summer on record? More heat-trapping pollution."The image is split into two sections. The left side shows a desert landscape with industrial facilities in the distance. The right side depicts a forest on fire, with thick smoke and tall trees engulfed in flames. A text overlay reads: "Removing limits on climate-altering pollution will add more fuel to the record heatwaves, wildfires and extreme storms we’re already facing."A forest fire scene with smoke rising among trees. A headline from the Environmental Defense Fund warns about the EPA's proposed rollback of power plant pollution standards, indicating it could cause thousands of premature deaths and cost billions of dollars. Text reads: "The EPA's own analysis warns that this move could cause thousands of premature deaths."A large industrial smokestack and building are set against a clear sky at sunset. In the foreground, dry grass and plants are visible. Overlaid text reads: "Trump's EPA said it would no longer value human health or life. Now they're acting like it."

Spoiler alert: They did get rid of him! A federal court today rejected the Trump administration's abuse of emergency powers to keep an aging, expensive coal plant open past its scheduled retirement. It's time for a cleaner future. www.edf.org/media/federa...

$4 billion to produce LESS energy? Make it make sense.

Energy Secretary Chris Wright just forced Michigan’s J.H. Campbell power plant to stay open for the sixth time, delaying its retirement for 443 days and counting. Propping up this coal-burning plant has already cost $259 million — a burden passed to customers in the form of higher electricity bills.
A coal power plant with visible smoke against a clear sky. A sticker with Energy Secretary Chris Wright pointing, labeled "I DID THAT!" overlays the image. An MLive headline reads: "Feds keep coal burning at Michigan power plant as costs surge to $260M" while text reads "The Trump administration just chose to raise your electricity bills. Again."A press release from the Environmental Defense Fund states that the cost of the Trump administration keeping the Michigan coal plant open past its retirement date has risen to $259 million. Text reads "Retiring the plant as planned was intended to lower utility bills. Instead, families and businesses are shouldering the burden."

Clean, affordable energy is "kinda chic"!
Two wind turbines under a clear blue sky. Text reads: "kinda chic to win another lawsuit against the Trump administration."The image features a blue sky with scattered clouds and a wind turbine. A headline from the Environmental Defense Fund reads, "Court blocks Trump administration’s freeze on affordable wind energy," followed by text about wind projects and job creation that emphasizes that the delayed wind projects could power millions of homes. Below, large yellow text states, "kinda chic to power millions of homes without pollution."A large wind turbine stands against a clear blue sky. Overlaid are headlines from The Guardian, BBC, and PBS News about court rulings affecting the Trump administration's restrictions on wind energy projects. A message in bold yellow text reads, "kinda chic to defend Americans from attacks on affordable energy."

A HUGE WIN: A federal district court ruled that the Trump administration can't hide any longer from its obligation to protect Americans from harmful soot pollution. Now, Trump's EPA is legally required to identify areas with unsafe levels of this pollution by February and begin cleaning it up.

Secretary Wright is steering us in the wrong direction. Data centers are straining the grid and adding costs because the rules weren’t built with them in mind. But with the right rules, data centers could fund upgrades to our electrical grid and lift the cost burden on families and small businesses.

President Trump's proposed budget would gut the agencies that keep us safe from extreme weather, pollution and toxic chemicals. Here's what you need to know.
A graphic with the EDF Action logo shows the text: "Your health is on the line. President Trump's proposed budget would deal yet another blow to the agencies responsible for our health and wellbeing. See what's at stake." The background features a cityscape with a sunrise or sunset.Image showing two smokestacks emitting smoke against a cloudy sky. Text on the right reads: "Environmental Protection Agency. EPA exists to set standards for clean air and water. They test chemicals for safety and manage the cleanup of toxic waste sites in our communities." Below, in bold: "The Cut. President Trump proposed cutting EPA’s budget by 52%, reducing the number of scientists and inspectors who hold polluters accountable."A graphic shows offshore wind turbines on the right. On the left, text reads: "Department of Energy. DOE powers the transition to clean, affordable energy and modernizes our power grid to handle extreme weather. The cut: President Trump's proposed budget would eliminate $15 billion from the Bipartisan Infrastructure Law, slashing funding from roads, bridges and clean energy projects. This slows our progress on cheap, clean energy and makes our grid more likely to fail when we need it most."A graphic shows a hurricane from above on the left. On the right, text reads: "National Oceanic and Atmospheric Administration. NOAA runs the satellites and data systems that track hurricanes, floods and wildfires. They provide the 'early warning' for every major storm. The cut: President Trump proposed cutting NOAA's budget by 26% threatening our access to the data and up-to-date information that allow us to prepare before disaster strikes."
