Part of the capital punishment law in Tennessee is that the jury must consider any mitigating factors. The fact that Pike suffered horrible abuse as a child might have been enough for the jury to decide on life without parole.

I voted for Sanders twice in primaries. I did so fully aware that the vast majority of my Black family and friends did not trust him. I thought that he was the better choice compared to others in the Dem primaries on policy grounds. There's no way to defend him on this Bannon gambit. It's disgusting

I believe the ban was never enacted into law in VA. It was an executive policy put in place by the republican governor and was one of the things Spanberger reversed when she took office.
