I'm pretty sure that I saw this in the theatre during its original run after it got a glowing notice in the St. Paul Pioneer Press. Andrea Arnold is aping the aesthetics of cheap digital security cameras and much of the film is focused on urban squalor and it certainly DOES look ugly in a very well-composed way. 100
